Hunting Roosevelts in Clear Cuts with David Brinker

This week we talk Roosevelts! I know a number of you always ask me for more roosy podcast and I try to get at least one a year out. This time I am joined by David Brinker to talk about hunting clearcuts vs timber, and calling vs spot and stalk. Brinker hunts hard and spends a ton of time in the woods in September. It was fun to reminisce on my old stomping grounds and talk about the elk hunting that I cut my teeth on. Show Notes: David Brinker & Rosies - 0m 40s Transitioning from Any Bull to THE Bull - 5m 40s Dates & Tactic Changes Throughout Season - 10m 48s Do's & Don'ts + Thinking Outside the Box - 18m 29s Example Stories - 27m 11s Clear Cut Strategies - 34m 52s Example & More Tips - 50m 5s Brinker's Podcast, "The Altitude Show"- 58m 26s

Becoming a Better Elk Hunter with Andrew Jakovac

This podcast is from a few years ago but it is honestly one of my favorites of all time. Andrew is an absolute killer that flys under the radar. He constantly puts giant buck and bulls down with a trad bow. One of the biggest takeaways from this podcast for me, was the ability to change the temperature of a situation and then move in silent. Andrew talks about getting across the ridge from a herd bull and getting him fired up by acting like rut fest is going on, then slipping in silent. Hope you guys enjoy this episode from the archives! - Cody

Jay Nichol's Journey to Killing an Elk

What's up ladies and gents. Welcome to the ELK HUNT podcast! This is Cody Rich, if you are new here this podcast feed is a place for all of the Elk hunting interviews I have done over the last 6 or 7 years. This will eventually be one of the largest collections of elk hunting podcast and interviews ever compiled, which is pretty cool and I would love your guys help getting it out there to the world. To do that just leave a 5 star review and maybe tell a friend about it. Much appreciated, and enjoy! Hey If you want to be a good elk hunter there is one thing that I have noticed that every great hunter I have interviewed does that almost every new elk hunter does not. It's having a system. In my own quest to be a better hunter I sent out to learn from all the best hunters out there and the one thing they all have is a system that took them years to develop. Elk Hunt 201 Course Want to become a damn good elk hunter? You could listen to every elk hunting podcast in the world but until you develop a system you are going to stumble around in the woods trying to figure it out. What do every single one of the best elk hunters in the world have after years of honing their skills? a system. A system that allows them to find elk as soon as they hit the ground, get close to those elk, and then capitalize in the red zone. It's not some secret they know that know one else does, it's having a system and putting in the work. After interviewing hundreds of hunters and my own experience from the Oregon cost to the prairies of Montana I have put together my 4 step system in Elk Hunt 201 Course. Want to go from 101 to 201 this is the framework you need. Please note this is not for the newbie. If you are looking for a course on how to gut an animal this is not it. Getting At-Bats on Cow Hunts

On this week's intriguing episode of our podcast, we engage in a compelling conversation with young Jaden, focusing on an often overlooked yet incredibly effective strategy to becoming an accomplished elk hunter - by gaining more practical experience through cow elk hunts. Many novice hunters dream of bagging a majestic six-point elk, and while that ambition is understandable, it's important to recognize the immense value that comes from honing your skills and increasing your encounters with elk, which is exactly what cow elk hunts provide. There's a striking correlation between the number of encounters or 'at-bats' a hunter has with elk and their overall hunting proficiency. If hunting six points implies that you only encounter one herd of elk throughout the entire season, then you're missing out on the invaluable experience of being in close proximity to these magnificent creatures. The more you interact with elk in their natural habitat, the better you understand their behavior, movement patterns, and responses, ultimately making you a more effective and intuitive hunter. In this enlightening episode, we delve into an extensive discussion around the opportunities that cow elk hunting presents and how you can leverage them to become a better elk hunter. We not only discuss the practical aspects of hunting but also the underlying philosophy that shapes an accomplished hunter - patience, observation, understanding the animal, and refining your skills through repeated practice. Cow elk hunts offer an excellent platform for developing and sharpening these skills. They provide ample opportunity to learn the lay of the land, understand the habits of the elk, and practice various hunting techniques. Essentially, these hunts enable you to build your hunting acumen in a more hands-on manner, which is something that waiting for a six-point elk cannot offer. This episode is a treasure trove of insights into the world of elk hunting. We provide practical advice, share experiences, and discuss strategies that can help both novice and experienced hunters become more adept in their pursuit. We also emphasize the importance of respecting the animal and the environment it inhabits, underlining the fact that hunting is not merely about the kill, but also about being in harmony with nature and appreciating the majestic beauty of these creatures. Join us in this episode as we explore the multifaceted world of elk hunting, focusing on cow elk hunts as a powerful tool for improving your hunting skills, understanding elk behavior, and deepening your connection with the natural world. Check out the ELK HUNT COURSE for a full break down of my elk hunting system

If you have experience but want to get better, go here!

(New) Shawn Melland - Elk Hunting Flow State

Welcome to the podcast. This week I am joined my a good buddy Shawn Melland. Shawn is probably one of the best elk hunters in the world. I think a lot of people like to hate on him because what he does seems unattainable. I promise you the only difference between you and Shawn is mindset. You can sit here and say well thats not realistic but but ask yourself why. Why is unrealistic? We recorded this podcast originally as a wapiti Wednesday for the Patrons but the second half of this pod was so good on a deeper level that I couldn't not give it to the world. As Shawn said after the podcast, "wow that took a direction I wasn't expecting." I said "yeah that might be the biggest ah ha moment I have ever had on the podcast. That punched me in the face pretty hard.   A lot of you have seen that I put out a course called Elk Hunt 201. Which is a 4 step system for being a more successful elk hunter. I attribute a lot of my knowledge in the last few years to this man right here and a lot of that system comes from Shawn. There are seems to be two types of reactions to Shawns podcasts. Those who look at someone who targets only 380 plus bulls and says "Well he's different or that's not applicable." and those who say "What can I learn from this guy." Even if you want to shoot rag 6's  I would listen to every word Shawn says. Enjoy!
