Los archivos para cada sitio de Internet se almacenan y se ejecutan en servidores. Hay muchos servidores en Internet y muchos tipos, pero comparten la función común de proporcionar el acceso a archivos y servicios. Un servidor o servidora es un tipo de software que recibe las peticiones de usuarias y, dentro de un determinado número de opciones, las atiende. Este término "servidor" también se utiliza para referirse a la computadora física, al ordenador sobre el que funciona ese software.
