Show Notes

Jacob moved to Chevron with his twelve sons, and among them, he had a favorite son named Joseph, who was only seventeen years old. Joseph's brothers were envious of his preferential treatment, such as the multicolored coat their father made for him. Joseph further fueled their jealousy by telling them about his two dreams, which prophesied that he would rule over them. This created even more envy and hatred towards Joseph. In the meantime, Judah got married and had three sons. The eldest, Er, died young and childless. His wife, Tamar, was given in marriage to his second son, Onan. He also dies young. Yehuda refuses to marry his third son with Tamar. Determined to have a son from Yehuda's family, Tamar disguises herself as a prostitute and seduces Yehuda himself. Later, Yehuda learns that Tamar is pregnant and has her killed for infidelity. Still, when she shows certain personal items that Yehuda left as collateral for payment, he publicly admits that he is the father. Tamar has sons Peretz (King David's ancestor) and Zerach.
