Moses informed the Israelite people that he had requested permission from Hashem to enter the Land of Israel. Despite Moses's best efforts, Hashem ultimately declined his request. However, He did instruct him to ascend a nearby mountain to view the Promised Land. In his review of the Torah, Moses outlines the Exodus from Egypt and the Giving of the Torah, highlighting their unparalleled significance in human history. "Has this ever happened before, or has anything like it ever been recorded?" Have any people ever survived hearing Hashem speak from a fire? "You observed this event so that you would be aware that Hashem is the sole Hashem, and there is no other deity worthy of worship except Him." Moses foretells that in future generations, people will turn away from Hashem, worship idols, be exiled from their land, and be scattered throughout the nations. However, he states that they will seek Hashem and return to observing His precepts. Our parasha also includes a reiteration of the Ten Words and the verses of the Shema that establish the fundamental tenets of the Jewish faith, namely the oneness of Elohim and the commandments to love Elohim, study His Torah, and affix the words "Hear, O Israel, Elohim is our Elohim, Elohim is one" and the commandments to love Elohim, study His Torah, and "tie" these words as Tefillin on our arms and heads, and inscribe them on the Mezuzot affixed to our doorposts.
