Hashem commands Moshe to teach Aharon and his sons about their duties and rights as kohanim (ministers) offering korbanot (animal and vegetable offerings) at the Sanctuary. The fire on the altar must always be lit, and in it are burned the sin offerings, the fats of the shalom offerings, the sin offerings, the guilt offerings, as well as the separate "handfuls" of the vegetable offerings. The Kohanim eat the meat of the sin and guilt offerings, as well as the remnants of the vegetable offerings, while the Shalom offering is eaten by the one who brings it, except for the portions given to the kohen.
