Show Notes

Elohim commands Noah, the only righteous person in a world consumed by violence and corruption, to build a teivah ("Ark"), coated with pitch inside and out. A great flood, says Elohim, will eliminate all life from the face of the earth; but the ark will float on the water, sheltering Noah and his family, along with two members (male and female) of each animal species. Rain falls for 40 days and nights, and the waters flow for a further 150 days before beginning to recede. The ark rests on Mount Ararat, and from his window, Noah sends out a raven, and then a series of doves, "to see if the waters have gone off the face of the earth."
