After the revelation at Mount Sinai, Elohim dictates a series of laws to the People of Israel. These include the laws of servants, the penalties for murder, kidnapping, assault, and robbery, civil penalties for damages, lending, the responsibilities of the Four Guardians, and the rules governing the conduct of justice in the courts. Elohim promises to bring the People of Israel into the Holy Land and warns them not to take the pagan ways of the present inhabitants of the Holy Land. The Jewish People proclaim: "We will do and we will listen" to all that Elohim commands us. Leaving Aaron and Jur in charge of the Israelite camp, Moshe ascends Mount Sinai and remains there for forty days and forty nights to receive the Torah from Elohim.
