The last three plagues sent over Egypt: locusts devour all
crops and vegetables; A tangible darkness envelops the
earth; and all the firstborn of Egypt will die at midnight
on the 15th of Nisan. Elohim commands to deliver the
first Mitzvah (precept) to Israel: to establish a calendar
based on the monthly lunar cycle.
The Israelites are instructed to offer a "Passover
Sacrifice" to Elohim: a lamb or a kid that was to be
slaughtered, and part of its blood was to be splashed on
the door jambs of every Israelite house so that Elohim
would skip them when he comes to kill the Egyptian
firstborn. The roast meat of the offering was to be eaten
that same night with matzah (unleavened bread) and
bitter herbs. The death of the firstborn finally breaks
Pharaoh's resistance and drives the Children of Israel out
of their land. So quickly do they depart, with no time for
their masses to leave, that the only provisions they have
are unleavened. Before leaving, they ask their Egyptian
neighbors for gold, silver, and clothes, emptying Egypt of
its fortune. The Children of Israel are commanded to
consecrate all the firstborns and observe the anniversary
of the Exodus each year by disposing of all leavened food
for seven days, eating matzah, and telling the story of the
Exodus to their children
