SHEMOT
Pharaoh ordered the Hebrew midwives Shifra
and Pua to kill all males born. He sends His
people to throw the Hebrew babies into the
Nile. Iojeved, Levi's daughter, and her husband
Amram have a son.
The boy is placed in a basket in the river while
his sister, Miriam, watches from afar.
Pharaoh's daughter discovers the child, raises
him as her own, and names him Moshe. As a
young man, Moshe leaves the palace and
recognizes the difficulties. He sees an Egyptian
beating a Hebrew and kills the Egyptian. The
next day sees two Jews fighting each other;
they reveal what Moshe did the day before,
thus forced to flee Egypt for Midian. There he
rescues the daughters of Itró, marries one of
them – Tzipora, and becomes the shepherd of
his father-in-law's cattle.
