Jacob lied the last 17 years of his life in Egypt. Before
he dies, he asks Joseph to swear that he will bury him
in the Holy Land. He then blesses Joseph's two sons,
Menashe and Ephraim, raising them to the level of his
sons as progenitors of tribes in the nation of Israel.
The patriarch wishes to reveal the end of days to his
children but is prevented by Elohim.

sons, assigning to each his role as a tribe: Judah will
produce leaders, legislators, and kings; the priests will
come from Levi, wise men from Isajar, navigators
from Zvulun, schoolmasters from Shimon, soldiers
from Gad, judges from Dan, and olive harvesters from
Asher. Reuben warned for "confusing his father's
marriage"; Shimon and Levi for the Shchem massacre
and the plan against Joseph.
