Show Notes

Lydia Villa-Komaroff is an American molecular biologist whose research led to the discovery that bacteria could be engineered to produce insulin, a hormone that plays a critical role in regulating glucose levels in the blood. Villa-Komaroff’s breakthrough ultimately improved the production and availability of insulin used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus, a condition in which the body is unable to maintain healthy blood glucose levels.
