Citizens in modern bourgeois societies are free and more often than not in the position to elect their own governments. Despite this, state rule is class rule. This however is not due to corrupt politicians. Rather, class domination is already inscribed in the freedom and equality of commodity owners. Nor is this contradicted by the fact that state-mediated class domination often goes hand in hand with imposing limits on capitalist exploitation.
