Show Notes
Doctor Yvette Bonny, a Haitian-born hematologist, is being honored by the Canadian government for her groundbreaking work. Despite facing racism and skepticism, she performed Quebecs first pediatric bone marrow transplant in 1980 and led the provinces pediatric bone marrow transplant unit for nearly 20 years. Bonny has received numerous awards, but she still questions her worth. One of her former patients, Ulysse Guerrier, credits her with saving his life and inspiring him to become an advocate for sickle cell anemia. Bonny encourages young Black female doctors to claim their space and prove their worth, just as she did.
