Show Notes
Canadas Liberal government introduces Bill C-25 to combat election loopholes exploited by the Longest Ballot Committee. Key changes include limiting candidates per riding and restricting voter signatures. The bill adopts seven out of eight committee recommendations and sets penalties for signature collection before a candidates name is on the paper. The Longest Ballot Committee, active since 2021, has backed hundreds of candidates. Independent candidate Bonnie Critchley supports the one-agent rule but worries about the signature limits impact on undecided voters and independents. The bill wont affect the April 13th Terrebonne byelection, where 48 candidates are running.
