Siemens Mobilitys new factory in Lexington, North Carolina, is producing Airo passenger coaches for Amtraks Carolinian and Piedmont trains, set to hit the tracks by 2028 and 2032 respectively. The factory, which started assembly a year ago, is part of Amtraks $7.3 billion fleet upgrade deal with Siemens. The plant, located on 200 acres right on the rail line, has received a $5.64 million jobs grant and is expected to create jobs and stimulate the local economy. Siemens is also building for Brightline in Florida and commuter lines in New York and Wisconsin. The factory is currently training workers to build the high-tech trains, with over 2,000 suppliers providing components. The upgrade will make the trips smoother and more reliable for riders up and down the East Coast.
