Dr. Elliot Brown Palmer, a pioneering Black educator and civil rights leader, passed away at 93. Known for advocating for Black teachers, he dedicated his life to education, history, and community empowerment. Palmer, a Durham native, earned degrees from North Carolina Central University and fought for equal pay, rights, and school desegregation. He opened Raleighs first African-American museum and directed the Hammocks Beach Association for over 50 years. Palmers honors include the Order of the Longleaf Pine, the Old North State Award, and a Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award. His funeral service celebrates his legacy, inspiring many with his love and work.
