Two-time Olympic gold medalist Caster Semenya is speaking out against the International Olympic Committees new ban on transgender women and athletes with differences in sex development competing in womens events. Semenya, who has naturally high testosterone due to her DSD condition, was banned from major races in 2019 after refusing hormone treatment. She won gold in the 800 meters at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympics. The new policy, which will be in effect for the 2028 Los Angeles Games, bars trans women who have gone through male puberty and females with DSD traits from elite womens categories. Semenya criticized the IOC for not understanding the struggles of global South athletes and for not truly listening to their concerns.
