Christmas beyond its religious aspects will like opening day of hunting season will always be a special time, and one that evokes great memories of the past. When Larry’s two daughters were young, Christmas vacation met going hunting and spending outdoors with their Dad. When four grandsons and on granddaughter came on the scene, Christmas vacation from school and even college meant getting to hunt with their Papo. Over the years as a professional wildlife biologist and hunter/conservationist Larry has had the opportunity to meet and get to know some truly great people. One such person is Ron Porter, who Larry met on a hillside in the early 1970’s while on a desert mule deer hunt in New Mexico’s Southern Lincoln National Forest. Larry was then a biologist for the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and Porter a Game Warden for the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish. From that first meeting they became dear friends and soon started hunting together. Now retired from both the NMDGF and his taxidermy shop, Larry recently had a chance to again catch up with Ron and get him to talk about some of his adventures, from absolutely scary to downright humorous. According to Wikapedia, Jerry Miculek is referred to as "The Greatest Shooter of All Times". Rightfully so, he holds numerous world speed shooting records but also hit a small target at 1,000 yards shooting a 9mm handgun, off-hand. His doing so impresses me more than his world speed shooting records. Kay's father was Jimmy Clark, one of the world's best pistolsmiths and shooters. He taught his daughter early on how to shoot handguns and shoot them ultra accurately. She has collected many Gold and Silver Medals shooting in World IPSC competitions as well as in other handgun competitions. Jerry and Kay Miculek combined are without a doubt two of the world's best and most known and recognized shooters. Linda Powell is no stranger to those who hunt and shoot. In the outdoor world she has made a definitive "mark"! It's been my pleasure and honor to have known "Ms. Linda" for a goodly number of years and during that time calling her a dear friend even though for several years we worked for competitive gun companies.
