One such person is Ron Porter, who Larry met on a hillside in the early 1970’s while on a desert mule deer hunt in New Mexico’s Southern Lincoln National Forest. Jim Zumbo, outdoor hunter/fisherman/ outdoor writer/forester/biologist/book author/tv show host/speaker was long hunting editor for Outdoor Life magazine and writer for many other outdoor publications. Jim has lost count of the feature articles he’s written and of the TV shows he hosted on the Outdoor Channel. A native of New York, Jim headed West shortly after college. These days is known as the consummate “westerner”. His moustache, black hat and ready smile have long been his trademark. For many years Jim has been one of my personal heroes, mentors but more importantly a best friend. I recorded this interview recorded in Oklahoma, on the property previously owned by Miranda Lambert, entertainer extraordinaire. Jim, Rick Lambert (Miranda’s dad) and I were there fishing for bluegills, one of Jim’s favorite fish. Rick Lambert truly is as man of many talents including songwriting, playing guitar, entrepreneur who owns Red 55 Winery and the Pourhouse in Lindale Texas, outdoor chef who loves cooking in cast iron, fisherman, a consummate turkey hunter and hunter of many other things in North America and in Africa. He also happens to be the father of Miranda Lambert. However, to me more importantly, he is “Rick” a dear friend for numerous years. I caught up with my old friend while he, Jim Zumbo and I were in Oklahoma on the ranch that Miranda used to own. Our goal was to catch several “messes” of bluegills to send back to Wyoming with Zumbo, eat good, tell a few hunting yarns, and simply enjoy each other’s company while kicking back and relaxing. According to Wikapedia, Jerry Miculek is referred to as "The Greatest Shooter of All Times". Rightfully so, he holds numerous world speed shooting records but also hit a small target at 1,000 yards shooting a 9mm handgun, off-hand. His doing so impresses me more than his world speed shooting records. Kay's father was Jimmy Clark, one of the world's best pistolsmiths and shooters. He taught his daughter early on how to shoot handguns and shoot them ultra accurately. She has collected many Gold and Silver Medals shooting in World IPSC competitions as well as in other handgun competitions. Jerry and Kay Miculek combined are without a doubt two of the world's best and most known and recognized shooters. It's been my pleasure and honor to have known "Ms. Linda" for a goodly number of years and during that time calling her a dear friend even though for several years we worked for competitive gun companies. For the past several years Linda has been deeply involved with Mossberg and their PR, Media and Marketing. She is a serious hunter and outdoors person with a tremendous amount of experience. Even though she did not start out as a hunter, she has now hunted throughout the world. Linda too was instrumental in my hunting with Mossberg Patriot rifles.
