Researchers at Wits University have identified sulphidation as one of the huge contributors to some of the break-downs at Eskom which ultimately lead to loadshedding. Sulphadation is a chemical process that degrades steel through the formation of brittle compounds of iron and sulphur. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Head of Wits School of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering, Professor Josias Van Der Werwe.
