There continues to be uproar over Sanral's decision of awarding multi-billion rand construction projects to Chinese Firms. The South African Institute of Civil Engineering has written an open letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa questioning the awarding of the tenders to foreign companies over local firms. Sanral has however come out to support its decision noting that it followed all legal processes.
