Researchers uncover that Mesenchymal Drift (MD)—the widespread activation of mesenchymal genes across tissues—is a conserved feature of aging and multiple diseases.
📉 High MD = worse outcomes (e.g., in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, survival dropped from 1,027 to 294 days).
🔄 Excitingly, partial reprogramming with Yamanaka factors (OSKM) reverses MD before cells lose their identity, restoring youthful transcriptional programs.
