π¨ New Study Alert π§¬π«
Think a CAC score of zero means you're in the clear? Think again.
A massive cohort from the Western Denmark Heart Registry (n = 23,777) shows that elevated LDL-C is strongly associated with non-calcified plaque 𧱠and future coronary events π₯βeven in those with CAC = 0.
π Each 1 mmol/L (~39 mg/dL) rise in LDL-C increases the odds of plaque (aOR 1.21) and risk of CHD (aHR 1.28).
π₯ Risks were highest in individuals β€45 yearsβa silent threat during prime decades of life.
π‘ Takeaway: No calcium β No risk. LDL-C still drives subclinical disease.
π©ββοΈπ¨ββοΈ Time to rethink statin strategy in younger adults with "reassuring" scans.
