Show Notes

The Right Reverend Father John W. Gains, a devoted Anglican bishop, passed away peacefully at home in Georgetown, Delaware, on March 7, 2026. Born in Philadelphia in 1938, he led a fulfilling life marked by faith, military service, skilled work, and spiritual leadership. After marrying Mary Catherine Kennedy in 1958, he served in the U.S. Navy and later built a career repairing office equipment. His true calling emerged when he earned a doctorate and founded the Anglican Parish of Saint James in Georgetown. The church, which began with services in his living room over 25 years ago, grew strong using the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. Known for his endless compassion, he comforted the grieving and funded mission work in India. He is survived by his sister, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, and his parish family. A memorial service will be held on March 28, 2026, at Saint James Anglican Parish in Georgetown.
