UN Inquiry Finds No Syrian Probe into Sweida Sectarian Violence: A United Nations investigation has revealed no signs of Syria investigating its forces role in the deadly sectarian clashes in Sweida province last summer, which resulted in over one thousand seven hundred deaths, predominantly from the Druze minority. The violence erupted between Druze armed groups and local Bedouin clans, with government forces siding heavily with the Bedouins, leading to targeted attacks on both communities. The clashes caused immense suffering, with widespread looting, burning of Druze villages and religious sites, and retaliatory strikes on Bedouin civilians. The report, based on interviews with over four hundred survivors and witnesses, and visits to government-held areas and local Druze factions, criticizes security leaders for allowing the attacks and calls for their removal. Despite Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaas promise of probes into all sides, human rights groups report a lack of real accountability. The events remain a significant obstacle to stabilizing the country. Support the show:Get a discount at https://solipillow.com/discount/dnn. Global Farming Crisis: Iran War Blocks Fertilizer Supplies, Threatening Crop Yields The Iran war has triggered a severe global farming crisis, with the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz disrupting fertilizer supplies and spiking gas prices. Nitrogen-based fertilizers, essential for plant growth, are in short supply due to shipping delays and increased liquefied natural gas costs. Countries in Africa and Asia, heavily reliant on these imports, are already facing critical gaps. Small farmers in India and Ethiopia fear survival without government subsidies, as higher costs could lead to lower crop yields or failures. In the US and Europe, fields already planted need these nutrients to build toward harvest. Even if the strait reopens, insurance rates will rise, and security issues will persist. This fragile situation highlights the importance of steady fertilizer flows and the need for local production and organic options to protect against future shocks.
