Today I discuss why eating in a stressed state causes weight gain, and provide a simple trick to turn on your digestive system, even when you are feeling stressed out. I also explain how high cortisol levels are negatively impacting our sleep and then when we don’t sleep well, we are less stress-resilient and again have high cortisol levels, as well as when we don’t sleep well, our brain looks for energy and so we reach for food, which further adds to the weight gain. This is a very common scenario that I see in my clients all the time and it shows up on their lab tests, even if they don’t feel stressed, BUT they don’t know why they have gained weight. You might wonder how a typo can lead to having half your thyroid removed unnecessarily….you’ll have to tune in to hear Lisa Wilson’s story, which is almost unbelievable except that it really happened to her. Then we discuss her long recovery, navigating mainstream medicine, and finding her way to Naturopathy and intuitive healing resources in order to really advance her healing. It’s been 7 years, and Lisa is still healing, but has come so far, and is doing much better thankfully. When our body is out of balance it sends us messages to get us to change something, so we can come back into balance, but that is so much harder to do when you’ve had ½ your thyroid surgically removed, and yet, it can still be done with the support of holistic health practitioners. Anne Crook, breast cancer thriver, tells her story of being diagnosed with breast cancer, from the shock of this diagnosis, given she has been in the health industry for over 20 years, and though she ate well and lived a “clean life” to the realization that the lump was her body talking to her, sending her a message that she needed to do things differently.
