Study Finds a Dog Year Doesn't Equal 7 Human Years
For years pet owners have gone by the rule that if you multiply your dog's age by 7, you will get their true age — so if your dog is 8 years old, their physiological age is likely closer to 56. Science is here to say that equation isn't quite right. A new study by researchers at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine, which was recently published in the Cell Systems journal, has found this practice won't give you your pooch's true age because dogs age differently than humans. New Study Indicates Dogs Mourn the Death of Their Canine Companions
A new study indicates that dogs have the ability to grieve, and express negative emotions in reaction to the death of other dogs they have lived with. The study, which was published in the journal Scientific Reports on Thursday, states that dogs who lived with a companion dog that died "changed both in terms of activities ('playing', 'sleeping', and 'eating') and emotions (fearfulness), which occurred as a function of the quality of the relationship between the two animals."
