Ep 87My Safe Place w/ Amy Shelle

Amy Shelle is the Founder of Dogs for GRETA, which trains service dogs for survivors of sexual assault diagnosed with PTSD. Usually, civilians have few options for service dog training as it is typically reserved for veterans. Ep 86Signs of Love w/ Jenni Williams

Jenni Williams’ husband was serving in the British Army, which led them to move to the U.S. on assignment for a period of time. Due to the circumstances, Jenni was unable to work with her visa status. To use her time, she decided to do volunteer work instead, landing on fostering. It turned out to be one of the most important decisions she ever made. Over time, Jenni ended up taking in 15 dogs over the years. Later, she had a daughter, Eve, who was born with a severe disability of a very rare chromosome condition, as well as epilepsy. However, even though Eve is only able to show love in a nonverbal manner, Jenni is able to understand the nontraditional communication thanks to her canine soulmate, Jess, and the other dogs she had fostered. All of these experiences inspired her to write a book: Rescued — Adventures with Down and Out Dogs. - SOCIAL MEDIA - Website - https://www.dogsavethepeople.com - Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/dogsavethepeople - Twitter - https://twitter.com/dogsavetheppl - Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/dogsavethepeople - FEATURED LINKS - Rescued: Adventures with Down and Out Dogs book on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Rescued-Adventures-Down-Out-Dogs/dp/1695093143 (free on Kindle Unlimited) - Jenni Williams on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/jenniwdog - Jenni WIlliams on Twitter - https://twitter.com/jenniwdog - Frederick Animal Control and Adoption Center (FCAC) - https://frederickcountymd.gov/15/Animal-Control

Ep 85Answering The Call w/ Jake Windell

Jake Windell is an LA county firefighter who has a therapy dog, named Echo, who he brought into his fire station to help make a difference in the ongoing mental health crisis of the fire world. Firefighters are often seen as a tough group, where it can be sometimes hard to break down emotional walls. They risk their lives daily to save others and 1-in-5 firefighters actually suffer from post-traumatic stress or cumulative stress injuries (and even that is underreported, as it’s still not common to report this type of injury). However, through the Peer Support Team that Jake is involved with, they are trying to make actionable changes to address mental health. One of the successful efforts so far has been with Echo, where having a dog around provides comfort to the firefighters and allows them to feel more comfortable to talk about how they may be handling emotional distress. (Lindsay Bird, one of our West Coast Correspondents from Deity Animal Rescue, takes on hosting duties for this conversation) - SOCIAL MEDIA - Website - https://www.dogsavethepeople.com - Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/dogsavethepeople - Twitter - https://twitter.com/dogsavetheppl - Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/dogsavethepeople - FEATURED LINKS - Echo The Fire Dog on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/echothefiredog - Patriotic Service Dog Foundation website - https://www.patrioticservicedogfoundation.org - Patriotic Service Dog Foundation on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/22tozerodogs - Patriotic Service Dog Foundation on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/patrioticservicedogfoundation

Ep 78Elevating Focus w/ Winnie Au

Winnie Au is a photographer based in Brooklyn, NY, who has found a muse in dogs throughout her career. She specializes in creating poignant and playful editorial dog photos. After her own dog, Tartine, received a cancer diagnosis, she pursued a long, traumatic, and expensive treatment plan that ultimately could not save her pet. This experience inspired Winnie to partner with a non-profit for a photo series to raise awareness for those who need financial assistance for medical bills of their dogs. The photo series, Cone of Shame, also flips the negative stigma of dogs wearing cones around their heads and presents them in an artistic, positive, and playful light. The eye-catching photos helped get attention for Animal Haven's Recovery Road Fund, which helps take away the burden of choice based on affordability for your dog’s care. - SOCIAL MEDIA - Website - https://www.dogsavethepeople.com - Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/dogsavethepeople - Twitter - https://twitter.com/dogsavetheppl - Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/dogsavethepeople - FEATURED LINKS - Winnie Au’s website - https://www.winniewow.com - Winnie Au on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/winniewow - Winnie Au’s dog, Clementine, on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/clemclemthebasset - Winnie Au on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/winnieauphotography - “Cone of Shame” photo series - https://www.winniewow.com/coneofshame - Canine Chronicles book - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/coneofshame/canine-chronicles - Animal Haven's Recovery Road Fund - https://animalhaven.org/support

That our actions matter and even one little thing can make a big difference. She was inspired to write a set of curriculum and books around these findings and lessons, which she also shares online for parents (and other teachers) to be able to use for learning with their own kids – which are especially helpful when parents are trying to work on educational activities with their kids at home.SOCIAL MEDIAWebsite - https://www.dogsavethepeople.comInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/dogsavethepeople/Twitter - https://twitter.com/dogsavethepplFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/dogsavethepeopleFEATURED LINKSThe Big World of Little Dude website - https://www.worldoflittledude.comThe Big World of Little Dude on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/worldoflittledudeThe Big World of Little Dude on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/worldoflittledudeWeekly Online Lesson Plans - https://www.worldoflittledude.com/product-category/lesson-plansThe Good Dog Foundation website - http://thegooddogfoundation.orgThe Good Dog Foundation on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/gooddogtherapyThe Good Dog Foundation on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/thegooddogfoundationThe Good Dog Foundation on Twitter - https://twitter.com/GoodDogTherapyCollaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) website - https://casel.org

She started Dogsized in 2007 as a way to share what she was learning as a new dog owner, and to have it serve as a resource for others in the same boat. And while Lynn has learned a lot about being a dog owner, what she’s learned most from her dog is to make sure you live in the moment since it can be so hard to forget sometimes but dogs always are able to do so.FEATURED LINKSKobi The Havenese on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/kobi_the_havanese/Dogsized website - https://dogsized.comDogsized on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/DogsizedDogsized on Twitter - https://twitter.com/dogsizedSOCIAL MEDIAWebsite - https://www.dogsavethepeople.comInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/dogsavethepeople/Twitter - https://twitter.com/dogsavethepplFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/dogsavethepeople

Ep 40Settling Down w/ Timothy Braun

Timothy Braun is a Professor at St. Edwards University, where he primarily focuses on teaching playwriting and screenwriting. While he used to travel around the country as a playwright, getting his dog Dusty led him to becoming more grounded as a person and eventually staying in one place (Austin, Texas). With his furry sidekick, he learned the power of growing more stable in his routine. They even did so much nonprofit work for the local community that the Mayor of Austin named a day of the year after Dusty after he recently passed away. Dusty instilled a permanent shift in Tim’s actions and outlook, taming him in the best way possible and preparing him for the next chapter of his life, a marriage, that ended up happening right after Dusty left – but was a symbol and reminder for passing the torch to Tim’s new wife, and that his spirit will live on.FEATURED LINKSTimothy Braun website - http://timothybraun.comTimothy Braun on Twitter - https://twitter.com/TimothyBraun42Timothy Braun on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/timothybraunTimothy Braun on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/timothy.braun.716Timothy Braun’s first Modern Love piece - https://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/26/fashion/dog-anchors-man-facing-setbacks.htmlTimothy Braun’s second, recent Modern Love piece - https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/16/style/modern-love-man-who-is-nice-to-animals.htmlDaniel Jones, Editor of Modern Love - https://twitter.com/danjonesnytAustin Animal Shelter - http://www.austintexas.gov/department/aacHomeslice Pizza in Austin - https://homeslicepizza.comSOCIAL MEDIAWebsite - https://www.dogsavethepeople.comInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/dogsavethepeople/Twitter - https://twitter.com/dogsavethepplFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/dogsavethepeople

Ep 39Uplifting The Team w/ Austin Moss

Austin Moss is the owner of Zoë, the first emotional support dog on an NFL team. Working for the San Francisco 49ers as their Director of Player Engagement, Austin’s job is to help the team’s players across the board. Zoë is a French bulldog who has become the team’s official emotional support dog, and has helped Austin in his role. Players spends time with Zoë before and after games, between practices, and any windows of time they may have. She provides a valuable escape from the rough trials and tribulations of the football field, and has allowed the players to not only feel joy from hanging out with her, but also be more vulnerable and open about what they may be going through. Whether consciously or subconsciously, stopping by Austin’s office to see Zoë gives players a reason to come by more often and catch up about what’s on their mind. The team is having a great season thus far, and it’s undeniable that Zoë has at least a paw in those results.FEATURED LINKSZoë, The 49ers Frenchie, on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/the49ersfrenchie/Austin Moss on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/austinmoss_2Austin Moss on Twitter - https://twitter.com/austinmoss_2San Francisco 49ers website - https://www.49ers.comSan Francisco 49ers on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/49ers/San Francisco 49ers on Twitter - https://twitter.com/49ersSan Francisco 49ers on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/SANFRANCISCO49ERS/Valley Humane Society on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/valleyhumanesociety/Valley Humane Society on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/valleyhumanesociety/SOCIAL MEDIAWebsite - https://www.dogsavethepeople.comInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/dogsavethepeople/Twitter - https://twitter.com/dogsavethepplFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/dogsavethepeople
