S. Michael Scott lifelong resident Howard City shares growing up in Montcalm County

Mike Scott a lifetime resident of Howard City, retired village council member and currently sits on the board of the Montcalm County Road Commission.  Mike joined Duane to finish an interview they started in 2018 by updating the story.  In the 1880s Mike’s great grandfather raised his family here, his grandfather and three of his sisters lived here, along with Mike’s dad also grew up here.   In 1940 during World War 2 when his dad went off to war and was stationed in Seattle Washington where Mike was born.  Mike was about 2 months old in 1945 when the family moved back to Howard City.   He has lived here every sense that time except for two years when he was in the army serving his country.

At this point Discover Montcalm jumps back to that interview in 2018.  The interview goes in depth about Mike growing up in Howard City, Graduating, Work and how Howard City and the area looked like through his eyes.

The podcast closes with Duane and Mike talking about what has changed since 2018.   Mike states, “Since we did that interview I’m not being as active in the community village council.  I do keep up on what’s going on and they’ve done some real positive things.  For example the expansion work done to upgrade the sewer system.  The expansion work with Tri-County Schools to accept their waste water for their new schools complex is positive. County wide for example Parker Hannifin growing in Lakeview, Larry’s Tire moving their headquarters Howard City.  Edmore’s growth with the village market is also great for that community.”

Mike goes on to say, “Bottom line, all growth that happens within the county does impact all the communities within the county.”
