Die Geschichte des Rock’n’Roll beginnt für viele am 20. Mai 1954 – mit der Veröffentlichung der Single Rock Around The Clock von Bill Haley & His Comets. Als Titel- und Abspannsong des Films Blackboard Jungle (Saat der Gewalt) wird der Song 1955 zum internationalen Hit. In Deutschland ist der Song der erste englischsprachige Nummer-1-Hit und Bill Haley & His Comets werden als erste Künstler mit einer Goldene Schallplatte für mehr als 500.000 verkaufte Singles ausgezeichnet.
