Der Musikmanager Lou Perlman hatte Anfang der 90er-Jahre die Idee für eine Boygroup, suchte dafür fünf junge Sänger und Tänzer und fand sie in Howie D., AJ McLean, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson und Brian Littrell.
