We need to distinguish between receiving a certificate of attendance, a certificate of completion, and a industry certification. It all drives to the difference between knowing about something and validating one's retained knowledge of the subject.
Mere awareness of the existence of safety standards does not equate to a deep comprehension of, and commitment to, these standards.
