Psalm 119: God’s Sufficient Word - Part I

In this episode, Jonny Ardavanis breaks down the first 11 stanzas of Psalm 119. This 119th Psalm is easily the longest chapter in the Bible, but the length of this psalm is equal to its profound depth of meaning. In this two-part series, I want to look at the 22 stanzas within this psalm and in doing so, detail 22 profound tragedies that come from neglecting God’s word in your life. Contrastly, there are within this psalm 22 blessings, 22 great and wonderful promises made to those, who like this psalm's author, commit their lives to the word of God.Watch VideosVisit the Website Follow on InstagramFollow on Twitter

The King who came to die

In the final episode of this advent series, Jonny Ardavanis looks to the prophecy regarding the Messiah who would be our sacrificial lamb. If were to ask: “Why did Jesus come?” The answer of scripture would be: He came to die. Celebrating the Christ of Christmas is dependent upon our consideration and contemplation of why we needed Him to come in the first place. The King who was born and laid in a manger was the final lamb “who would take away the sins of the world.”Watch VideosVisit the Website Follow on InstagramFollow on Twitter

Immanuel

In part II of this Advent series, Jonny Ardavanis considers the wonder of the incarnation by examining the Creator’s design and desire to dwell with His people. When Adam and Eve sinned, they were not only banished from the garden of Eden, but from God’s presence. Therefore, the purpose of their humanity was lost. How then can Eden be restored? How can we dwell in the presence of God once again? Initially, in the Old Testament, the way God brokers access to His presence is through the tabernacle, mediated by the priest. God’s glory that once filled the Garden would once again, descend into the tabernacle, but who can enter? Only the priest. There remained this longing for fellowship, for full access to God’s presence. An understanding of the structure of the tabernacle gives new meaning to the words of John’s opening words in his gospel: “The Word became flesh and dwelt (tabernacled) amongst us and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten, full of grace and truth.”Watch VideosVisit the Website Follow on InstagramFollow on Twitter

Ruth: The Coming King

In this episode, Jonny Ardavanis lays out the framework for understanding the book of Ruth. The book of Ruth is juxtaposed against the backdrop of the time of the Judges, a time of great wickedness for the people of God. Throughout the book of judges there is a reoccurring theme: “there was no King in Israel.” The anticipation of a coming king functions as one of the main thrusts of the entire Old Testament. In the book of Ruth, we see how God is providentially orchestrating His plan to bring about His king through every day people and amidst pain, suffering and famine. In order to understand the book of Ruth, we need to understand why it was written. Ruth was written to reveal God’s providential plan in bringing about His redemptive purpose.Watch VideosVisit the Website Follow on InstagramFollow on Twitter
