The Detroit Lions have traded running back David Montgomery, a key player, to another team in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick in 2026, a seventh-rounder in 2027, and offensive lineman Juice Scruggs. Montgomery, 29, had a standout role but saw limited action in 2025. The trade comes after the Lions extended Montgomerys contract earlier this year, but his frustration over touches led to the move. The deal provides salary cap relief and adds depth to the offensive line, but leaves a gap in the backfield. The Lions will likely seek a backup runner in free agency or the draft.
