This will be a short discussion on some changes occurring that we think everyone is going to enjoy. Why the change? Scheduling for all four hosts Reaching a broader audience with Linux Providing a more interactive show What is Changing The next stop on our Journey for Destination Linux is Twitch! . . . and YouTube live. We hope this brings a larger audience into the Linux world and provides more opportunity for people to participate in the show. Patrons Patrons will still continue to get the interviews early, when possible. The live recording on Youtube and Twitch will not remain on the site after the show is over. However, Patrons will get a link to the archived live shows if they would like to go back and watch that version. To respect our guests and continue to allow them to make announcements that aren’t yet ready for public consumption we will not be streaming live shows with the guests. The exception will be Patrons who can join us via Zoom as always. We will be recording the shows on Sundays and they will now be released on Fridays instead of Mondays. He first encountered Linux in the mid-1990s, and ran Red Hat then Debian on the desktop and server until Ubuntu Warty came out. Alan has been using Ubuntu since 4.10 – the Warty Warthog and never looked back. Previously Alan spent 13 years working as a system admin on some evil German proprietary software, but did what he could for Ubuntu and Linux in his spare time. Alan became an Ubuntu member in 2006 and has in the past been the contact person for the UK LoCo team, a member of the LoCo Council and a member of the EMEA Membership board and the Community Council. He quite dislikes forums. Alan likes cats. Setup and ran the Screencast Team which aimed to create a set of tutorial videos for new Ubuntu users. As part of that he managed the Ubuntu Screencasts Site. Since then Alan has now handed this over to another Ubuntu member. If you want Ubiquity to not install grub, running “ubiquity -b” will be of use to you. In my experience, it hasn’t stopped Ubuntu from automatically mounting my EFI partition when I log into my Ubuntu partition, but it does prevent Ubuntu from overwriting the existing GRUB on the EFI partition. As self-confessed distro-hoppers I was wondering if you could discuss elementary os and maybe a focus on minimalism in distros – being ill right now gave me an epiphany that I used to distro-hop like crazy until I landed on elementary. When I started using it, I felt trapped because it’s not as flexible as (for example) KDE and hated it until I realised that it has its own work flow that prevented me from breaking it – now I rely on it and can’t imagine switching. Is this minimalist approach key to stability in the Linux desktop? When I can configure a desktop, I find I will and then I inevitably switch to another distro when I break it – but when I can’t tinker with it, I get things done more effectively and am more likely to stick with it.
