Huub Lelieveld, a Dutch food scientist, is the 2026 World Food Prize laureate for revolutionizing food safety research and transforming it into practical solutions. His work has prevented millions of foodborne illnesses, reduced trade barriers, enhanced humanitarian aid, decreased food waste, and bolstered global food security. Lelievelds innovations in food processing have allowed companies to eliminate chemical preservatives, salt, and sugar, making products healthier.
