Four Californians Plead Guilty to Stealing Telecom Equipment Nationwide

A group of four individuals from California, including a woman, have admitted to posing as fake work crews and stealing equipment from telecommunications towers across multiple states, including Colorado. They would dress in hard hats and reflective vests, drive trucks with phony company logos, and use special keys or force entry to access the sites, primarily targeting backup power devices called rectifiers. The thefts occurred mainly in mid to late 2022, with at least 485 rectifiers taken and resold to other telecom firms until early 2024. The leader, Stephan Evanovich, faces up to ten years in prison, while the others are expected to receive sentences of under five years each and pay back between $230,000 and $550,000.
