Colorado Bureau of Investigation Launches Tip Line for Costilla County Sheriffs Office Misconduct
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has established a special tip line and email for leads on potential misconduct within the Costilla County Sheriffs Office, following a grand jury indictment of the entire command staff. Sheriff Danny Sanchez, Undersheriff Cruz Soto, Deputy Roland Riley, former Deputy Keith Schultz, and Sergeant Caleb Sanchez, the sheriffs son, face charges in two separate incidents. In one case, Sanchez and Schultz are accused of mishandling human remains, while in the other, Caleb Sanchez and Riley are charged with using excessive force during a mental health crisis. The Twelfth Judicial Districts DA is conducting further investigations, and the CBI encourages anyone with information to come forward.
