Show Notes

Union Pacifics Big Boy number four zero one four, the worlds largest operating steam locomotive, embarks on a coast-to-coast tour this spring to celebrate Americas bicentennial in 2026. The western leg begins March 29th in Cheyenne, Wyoming, stopping at historic sites across Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and California. Public displays will be held in Roseville, California, and Ogden, Utah. Overnight stops are off-limits. Built in the 1940s, this 1.2 million-pound beast traveled over a million miles before retiring in 1961. Union Pacific restored it in 2019, making it the only working Big Boy out of the original 25. The eastern leg is still in development.
