Jay is a Diplomate of the American Board, a member of the Angle Society, and a Fellow of both the International and the American College of Dentists. He is on the faculty of The University of Michigan, Saint Louis University, Case Western and Seton Hill Universities. He received the Angle Research Award and the Alumni Merit Award from Saint Louis University.

Jay is a Contributing Editor for the American Journal of Orthodontics, the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics, and Seminars in Orthodontics. He is co-author of the book: Mini-Implants in Orthodontics: Innovative Anchorage Concepts, He has over 150 articles and book chapters published. He has also developed dozens of innovative products including Butterfly System braces, Horseshoe Jet molar distalizer, Kilroy Springs and Monkey Hooks for impacted canines, Clear Collection instruments from Hu-Friedy and Aligner Chewies for clear aligners, among others.

A couple of his bucket list experiences was speaking for the last 2 World Federation of Orthodontists meetings, including a standing room only talk in London. As an amateur musician, Jay was lucky enough to be invited to play keyboards on-stage in Italy with his friends in the iconic rock band, Los Lobos, on their 40th anniversary tour

Most recently, he spent 2 weeks as the Milton Sims Visiting Professor and External Examiner at the University of Adelaide in Australia.
