Deepen with Pastor Joby Martin

Following Jesus isn’t about comfort— it’s about surrender. In this episode of Deepen, we explore the tension between fear and faith, the cost of truly following Jesus, and what it looks like to trust Him in the middle of life’s storms. Jesus isn’t an add-on to our plans. He is Lord and He calls us to put Him first. Faith doesn’t remove difficulty, but it anchors us in the One who has authority over every storm. When fear leads, we become paralyzed. When faith leads, we move forward with trust, courage, and obedience. No matter what you’re facing, Jesus invites you to follow Him fully, even when it costs everything. 📖 Scripture References: Matthew 8:18–27 Matthew 6:25–34 Philippians 4:6–7 📌 Supplemental Resources From This Week: • Trusting God's Goodness Through Infertility and Miracles - The Calloway's Story • Faith or Fear? - Fear to Faith - Matthew S3E1 • Faith or Fear? - Fear to Faith - Matthew S3E1 (Full Service) • Matthew Season 3 The Church of Eleven22® is a movement for all people to discover and deepen a relationship with Jesus Christ. In today's episode, we dive deeper into Pastor Joby's sermon on Matthew 7:15-29. How can you be sure you are saved? It's not by doing enough religious activity. Only through trusting in the finished work of Jesus can we have assurance. As Jesus closes out the Sermon on the Mount, He warns us about following false prophets or building our life on anything other than Him. We will only weather the storms of life when Jesus is the center and the bedrock on which we build. What did Jesus really mean when He said, “Judge not”? In this episode of Deepen, Pastor Joby Martin, Pastor Britt and Ali Parsons unpack Matthew 7 and the difference between discernment and a judgmental spirit. They talk about why “only God can judge me” can be such a dangerous mindset, how judgment steals our joy, why we’re called to pray for people instead of picking them apart and what it looks like to live with humility, repentance, and grace. If you’ve ever struggled with comparison, criticism, or trying to fix everyone around you, this conversation is a powerful reminder that true freedom and joy are found not in judging others, but in surrendering fully to Jesus. 📣 Episode Mentions: • Scripture Passage: Matthew 7:1-14 • Hosts: Pastor Joby Martin, Pastor Ryan Britt and Ali Parsons 📌 Supplemental Resources From This Week: • From Prison to Fatherhood: A Powerful Story of Redemption - Brian's Story • Judge Not - Mountain to Mountain - Matthew S2E5 • Judge Not - Mountain to Mountain - Matthew S2E5 (Full Service) • Matthew Season 2: Mountain to Mountain Sermon Series The Church of Eleven22® is a movement for all people to discover and deepen a relationship with Jesus Christ. What do you want out of life? Do you want people to be impressed by how holy you seem to be? In today’s episode of Deepen, Pastor Joby expounds on Matthew 6:1-18 and explains Jesus’ warning against being a “performer” of righteous deeds. Jesus wants us to live to please God and to pursue the reward that He offers through our giving, our praying, and our fasting: the gift of himself. “If we consider the unblushing promises of reward … promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at sea. We are far too easily pleased.” - C.S. Why is temptation so tempting? In this episode, Pastor Joby Martin and his guests discuss how to overcome temptation to sin using the power of the Word of God. If you’ve ever wondered why you still struggle with the same temptations, you’re not alone. Satan uses his 3 basic lures to try to distract us and deter us from the mission. We see in Matthew 4 that Jesus modeled for us a way to defeat the enemy's temptations and experience his victory. 📣Episode Mentions: • Scripture Passage: Matthew 4 • Hosts: Pastor Joby Martin, Pastor Ryan Britt and Jonathan Vinke 📌 Supplemental Resources From This Week: • From Self-Worth to Surrender - Caleb's Story • Temptation of Jesus - Heaven to Earth - Matthew S1E3 (Full Service) • Matthew Season 1: Heaven to Earth Sermon Series • Deepen with Pastor Joby Martin The Church of Eleven22® is a movement for all people to discover and deepen a relationship with Jesus Christ. Why do a father’s blessing land so deeply—and why does a “dad wound” shape how we see God? In this episode of Deepen, Pastor Joby and the guys talk through the weight of a father’s words, the life and ministry of John the Baptist, and why the call to repent is both urgent and hope-filled. They also unpack baptism—what it is, what it isn’t, and why obedience matters (without turning it into a work)—plus how the Holy Spirit fills believers for witness, surrender, and life change. So what’s your next step: are you ready to stop being “Christian-adjacent” and follow Jesus in real obedience—starting with baptism? 📣Episode Mentions: • Scripture Passage: Matthew 3 • Hosts: Pastor Joby Martin, Pastor Ryan Britt and Jonathan Vinke 📌 Supplemental Resources From This Week: • From Performance to Freedom: A Story of Surrender and Identity • Baptism of Jesus - Heaven to Earth - Matthew S1E2 • Baptism of Jesus - Heaven to Earth - Matthew S1E2 (Full Service) • Matthew Season 1: Heaven to Earth Sermon Series • Deepen with Pastor Joby Martin The Church of Eleven22® is a movement for all people to discover and deepen a relationship with Jesus Christ. We begin our study of the gospel of Matthew, which makes the point that Jesus is the greater Moses and has fulfilled all that God intended for the people of Israel. Jesus had one clear message: “repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” In this episode Pastor Joby, Pastor Britt, and Pastor Vinke discuss the genealogy of Jesus and how it shows us the amazing reality that God can use anyone. They also explore the ways in which knowing the matanarrative (the big story) of the Bible helps us better understand each passage we read. 📣Episode Mentions: • Scripture Passage: Matthew 1-2 • Hosts: Pastor Joby Martin, Pastor Ryan Britt and Jonathan Vinke 📌Supplemental Resources From This Week: • The Kingdom of Heaven Is at Hand •Vision Weekend - Heaven to Earth - Matthew S1E1 • Vision Weekend - Heaven to Earth - Matthew S1E1 (Full Service) • Matthew Season 1: Heaven to Earth Sermon Series • Deepen with Pastor Joby Martin

In this episode, Pastor Joby Martin is joined by Pastor Ryan Britt and Pastor Jonathan Vinke to discuss the visit of the Magi in Matthew chapter 2. King Herod, the religious scholars, and the magi all had the same information about Jesus; but only one group actually went after Jesus to offer their gifts in worship to him. What if the parts of your story you’re most ashamed of are actually the places God wants to show off His grace? In this Real Men of Christmas Deepen episode, Pastor Joby sits down with Pastor One to walk through the shepherds of Luke 2—young, overlooked, often written off as “shady” and insignificant. They unpack why God chose them to hear “good news of great joy for all people,” and how that same good news still breaks into dark, messy places in our lives today. From South Africa’s story of division to a global vision for the Church, they talk about unity around Christ (not uniformity), the difference between happiness and true joy, and why confession is actually courage. You’ll hear practical next steps for men (and women) who feel unqualified: learning to fear God instead of everything else, taking the next step of obedience, and returning to your everyday work as a different person—on mission where you already are. As you listen, ask yourself: Where might God be interrupting my “normal” so I can take my next step of obedience and share what I’ve heard and seen in Jesus? 📣Episode Mentions: • Scripture Passage: Luke 2 • Hosts: Pastor Joby Martin, One Mokgatle and Jonathan Vinke 📌 Supplemental Resources From This Week: • Mr. “Did We Get My Mom Anything?” Guy • Shepherds - Real Men of Christmas: Wk 2 • Shepherds - Real Men of Christmas: Wk 2 (Full Service) • Real Men of Christmas Sermon Series Series • Deepen with Pastor Joby Martin About The Church of Eleven22 The Church of Eleven22® is a movement for all people to discover and deepen a relationship with Jesus Christ. Culture is confused. Manhood is under attack. Too many men have traded responsibility for comfort, strength for passivity, and humility for pride. But the Bible gives us a different charge: “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love” (1 Cor. 16:13-14). In this roundtable, pastors, athletes, hunters, authors, and leaders share raw stories of failure and redemption, fatherhood and faith, and what it really means to be a man in God’s eyes. From the dangers of extended adolescence to the daily disciplines of brotherhood, mentorship, and service, this conversation is a call to arms. This is not about outdated stereotypes or cultural caricatures. This is about courage, conviction, humility, and responsibility. This is about becoming the kind of man your family needs, your community needs, and the kind of man God has called you to be.
