In this soul-stirring episode, I revisit a powerful training I conducted last year that feels more relevant now than ever. As the world grows louder and more complex, your voice—your truth—matters deeply.
Even though many of us have learned to stay silent about our wants, needs, desires, and beliefs, this silence comes at a high cost because it leads to suffering. Why? When we don't speak up for ourselves and for others, our relationships, communities, environment, careers, and health suffer. Also, if we don't speak up, we can't advocate for ourselves and others, which jeopardizes our ability to live in a world that respects the dignity and divinity of all people.
In this episode, I re-share the SILENT acronym, a powerful tool for identifying how external forces have silenced and oppressed us. By breaking down each component of SILENT—social norms, images, lies, elevation/elimination of voices, nullification of feelings, threats of punishment—we can begin to understand how we have been conditioned to stay silent about our needs, wants, beliefs, and desires.
The good news is that we can regain our voices. And once we do, we can advocate for ourselves, defend others, and dismantle the systems that rob us of our words, wisdom, and worth.
