Does Saints signing of OL Dillon Radunz mean team will look for skill player in NFL Draft? Ep. 354

The Saints signing guard Dillon Radunz from the Titans sort of flew under the radar, but could it mean the team will look more now at a skill player in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft. And more specifically, it could mean there’s more of a chance a skill player – like Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan or Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty – could be a possibility in the first round of the draft. Or maybe we’re just thinking too much. What does Advocate and Times-Picayune Saints editor Zach Ewing think? Host Jim Derry asks on Wednesday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 354) presented by Evangeline Securities. We also talk a little about the LSU women making another Sweet 16 and more bracket talk from the NCAA men. Lastly, on Wednesdays with Gabe Henderson he has a rant about the “little brother” mentality from some at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and we see if he can do better in the ‘Man vs. Machine’ pick of the day segment.

Brandin Cooks is back for Saints - is that good? LSU women to face FSU and NCAA men ZZZZ on Ep. 353

In the search for help on offense, the New Orleans Saints have turned to a familiar face, as late last week they brought back wide receiver and former first-round pick Brandin Cooks. Is he worth a 2-year, $13 million contract? Jim Derry asks the viewers and listeners on the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 353) presented by Evangeline Securities and takes comments throughout the show on 'Mano E Monday.' Gabe Henderson and I also will chat about the LSU women facing Florida State on Monday evening in the PMAC as they try to get to the Sweet 16 for the third straight season. (Both teams are in the top 6 in scoring.) Lastly, we talk NCAA Men’s Tourney (so far a snoozefest). and our new segment is live: 'AI vs. Gabe.'

Do Saints have a problem at left guard? And is Will Wade leaving McNeese with goodbye present? Ep. 352

We are 5 weeks away from the 2025 NFL Draft, and we’re trying to figure out what direction the New Orleans Saints might go. Do they need an offensive lineman to shift things around and find a starting left guard, or have they already made enough moves in free agency to fill the holes? Will Clapp? Landon Young? Nick Saldiveri? That’s just one of the topics for host Jim Derry and his guest, Times-Picayune and The Advocate sports columnist Rod Walker on Friday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 352) presented by Evangeline Securities. We also discuss whether the Pelicans should move on from Coach Willie Green in the offseason and whether Zion Williamson can get back to form in which he plays 70 or so games per season. Lastly, with the NCAA Tournament in full swing, Jim asks Rod if Will Wade is leaving McNeese a special moment before he departs for North Carolina State, and how long of a run the LSU women can have. And we finish the show with a new segment in which we ask A.I. for its sports bet of the day. (We probably shouldn’t ask it to do this live …)

Did the Saints pay too much for Juwan Johnson? Also, our top NCAA Tournament picks on Ep. 351

The Saints just gave tight end Juwan Johnson a 3-year, $31 million contract. Ummm, why? Is he really worth that? Is that the going rate for a tight end these days? Host Jim Derry gets into it quickly on Wednesday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 351) presented by Evangeline Securities. Also, a certain well-known ESPN draft dude has a ridiculous mock out there – at least when it comes to the Black and Gold, so we expose the absurdity. (Maybe Jim is just jealous of this guy’s hair?) It’s the day before the (real) start of the NCAA Tournament, so we are joined by the most underrated college expert on the planet, and that’s CBS Sportsline’s Thomas Casale, who shares his best bets and potential upsets. And on Wednesdays with Gabe Henderson, we have NCAA trends that might serve as a warning on who to stay away from with your Final Four picks and whom our listeners should be targeting.

Mike Detillier answers whether Saints are kicking the can or instilling hope on Ep. 350

The Saints have had quite a bit of news since we last left you just before Mardi Gras, including the restructuring of several veterans' contracts (yes, Derek Carr, among others). So what now? Is Mickey Loomis playing his usual game of kicking the can down the road, or is there actually light at the end of this deep, dark tunnel? Host Jim Derry is raring to go Monday on the Season 5 premiere of the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 350) presented by Evangeline Securities. and he's bringing in the big gun, WWL Radio's Mike Detillier to share opposing sides of thought. Jim also answers queries and comments from those who watched the show live on what normally is “Mano E Monday,” and has a little fun in debate with Gabe Henderson. Also, we get into a little talk on LSU basketball and baseball, as well as introducing a March Madness contest with listeners.

Saints decision on Derek Carr coming very soon. Has it already been made? Ep. 349, Season 4 finale

We have been asking the question for months, and finally we’re within days or – at most – a couple of weeks – of the answer: Will Derek Carr be the quarterback of the New Orleans Saints on Opening Day 2025 in September? Is there any better question to discuss on the Season 4 finale of the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 349) presented by Evangeline Securities? Host Jim Derry takes dozens of comments and questions from interested viewers and listeners and brings in WWL-TV sports director Doug Mouton to discuss it and to share how impressed they are thus far with new coach Kellen Moore. Jim also has Wednesdays with Gabe Henderson to discuss the Carr situation and how the team could possibly handle his salary and potential moves toward the cap hurt. Lastly, Jim shares some personal information and some great family news and gives a little preview to his upcoming ride in the Krewe of Endymion on Saturday.

What does the immediate future of Saints and Pelicans look like? Our best guess on Ep. 348

5-12 and 14-43. That’s where we currently are with our major sports franchises, as the New Orleans Saints just finished off their most unsuccessful season in 20 years, while the New Orleans Pelicans remain last in the NBA’s Western Conference. What are the biggest questions, and can we find the answers? Host Jim Derry turns to local radio and media expert David Grubb on Monday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 348) presented by Evangeline Securities. Jim also answer queries and comments from those who watched the show live on what normally is “Mano E Monday.” There’s a lot of talk on how long Zion Williamson might be here, as well as Pels coach Willie Green. And for the Saints, of course we need to talk more about quarterback Derek Carr and the potential scenarios he might have with the team. However, we also explore possibilities for Demario Davis, Cameron Jordan, Alvin Kamara, Taysom Hill and Tyrann Mathieu and the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.

Saints have to answer whether to keep Derek Carr or tank with Spencer Rattler for 2026 NFL Draft on Ep. 347

Just about every NFL fan on the planet knows the New Orleans Saints are in cap hell and football purgatory. While there is no easy way out, the No. 1 question for this team is clear: Do you stick with Derek Carr at quarterback, or do you “tank,” cut Carr and eat his salary and most likely go with either Spencer Rattler or a cheap free agent? Currently, only new Kellen Moore and General Manager Mickey Loomis likely know the answer to that, but that doesn’t mean host Jim Derry and The Athletic’s Larry Holder can’t offer their best guesses about it on Wednesday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 347) presented by Evangeline Securities. After Jim and Larry discuss the pressing question, Jim asks viewers and listeners for their thoughts and gets into a spirited debate with Gabe Henderson on the overall future of the Saints and whether they can win in the near future. Oh, and whether they should even think about winning.

What are Derek Carr options now that Kellen Moore is here? Luke Johnson answers on Ep. 346

Has there been any more controversial player among Saints fans than quarterback Derek Carr? So many want to move on from him, while others think he is the only chance this team has to win in the near term. Is winning even important in 2025? A bigger and better question is how does new coach Kellen Moore feel, and what are the options for Carr at this point? For answers, host Jim Derry turns to The Times-Picayune and The Advocate beat writer Luke Johnson on Monday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 346) presented by Evangeline Securities. Jim also answer queries and comments from those who watched the show live on what normally is “Mano E Monday.” To finish off the show, Gabe Henderson is back from vacation and is ready to chime in on the whole Carr / Spencer Rattler / find a free agent debate, while members of the “Dattitude family” tell us why they think – or don’t think – Rattler has the tools to be a legitimate NFL quarterback.

Kellen Moore is the next coach of the Saints ... What does Jeff Duncan think? Ep. 345

It took a little more than a month, but the New Orleans Saints finally have their man in hiring Kellen Moore to become the 19th coach in the history of the franchise. Is Moore the one to lead this team out of the depths of mediocrity? Will his youth be a benefit or a problem? Is Derek Carr going to be his field general? Host Jim Derry asks these questions and more of The Times-Picayune and The Advocate sports columnist Jeff Duncan on Wednesday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 345) presented by Evangeline Securities. Jeff and Jim also answer queries and comments from those who watched the show live. Is it a big deal that Moore is now the youngest coach in the NFL? How about that there have been very few coordinators in recent history leave their Super Bowl-winning teams to become a head coach? And speaking of the Super Bowl, Jeff has an idea when he thinks the game might be back here in the Crescent City.

Feb 12, 20251h 39m

Super Bowl 59 wrap up, and Saints coaching search ends with Kellen Moore when? Ep. 344

With so many places we could have started the show, we chose the one that has to do with both Super Bowl LIX and the New Orleans Saints: Kellen Moore’s offense that starred quarterback Jalen Hurts. (Not that the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense was shabby in knocking down Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.) So when will the Saints make it official and bring in Moore as their 19th head coach? Who will be his coordinators, and what’s the answer at quarterback? Will Moore be OK with Derek Carr in the near future? All things host Jim Derry gets into it early and asks viewers and listeners their opinions on Monday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 344) presented by Evangeline Securities. Also, Jim and Gabe Henderson get into an interesting discussion with their opinions on the Super Bowl halftime show and Kendrick Lamar, and Jim also shares his thoughts on how the city of New Orleans did in shaping an adult Disney World.

First, ESPN SportsCenter anchor Hannah Storm discusses her thoughts on the big game (and we'll ask about New Orleans sports), Kyle Turley has some comments, and The Athletic's Larry Holder will talk about the State of the #Saints on Wednesday's Dattitude (Ep. 342) presented by Evangeline Securities. Caesars Sportsbook lead oddsmaker Craig Mucklow also will be here to talk about the odds, and Jim will have many other guests.

Mike Detillier, Matt Moscona, Adam Chernoff on Saints and Super Bowl betting on Ep. 341

We're back on Radio Row ahead of Super Bowl 59, and host Jim Derry will bring in big-time talking heads both from the national and local scenes. First, betting expert Adam Chernoff will talk about going through the lines and finding value, and he'll be followed by ESPN Baton Rouge's Matt Moscona and WWL Radio's Mike Detillier, who will talk Kellen Moore, Mickey Loomis and the future of the #Saints on a special Tuesday afternoon edition of Dattitude (Ep. 341) presented by Evangeline Securities.

Feb 8, 20252h 37m

Day 1 from Radio Row we're talking Super Bowl LIX and Saints coaching search on Ep. 340

The Times-Picayune and The Advocate are doing a week’s worth of work from Radio Row, and on Day 1, we’re not just talking about whether Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles can pull the upset on Patrick Mahomes (aka God) and the Kansas City Chiefs. Actually, host Jim Derry spends much of the show talking to our Saints editor Zach Ewing what he thinks of the state of the team’s coaching search on Monday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 340) presented by Evangeline Securities. Is the deafening silence coming out of Saints Drive an indication the two sides have reached an agreement? What would that mean for Derek Carr? We also discuss the dreaded cap situation, and how that will affect any first-year coach coming in. Gabe Henderson is here virtually to touch on maybe the worst NBA trade in league history with Luka Doncic going to the Los Angeles Lakers, and Jim ends the show with a moment for Jack Bech that proves there is a such thing as an after-life.

Feb 3, 20251h 35m

Where would Kellen Moore begin if he becomes Saints next HC ... And more Super Bowl talk on Ep. 339

So it’s been a pretty quiet couple of days on the coaching front – does that mean the Saints HC job belongs to Kellen Moore? Are we even sure he wants it, and if so how much room will he have to revamp things right away? Jim Derry asks these questions and more to The Athletic's Larry Holder, and the duo also takes an early look at Super Bowl LIX on Friday's Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 339) presented by Evangeline Securities. Also, what do we think the Saints would do at quarterback if Moore is the next coach? After Larry departs, Jim has another spirited conversation with Gabe Henderson on whether the Saints should “tank” to raise their stakes in the 2026 NFL Draft and beyond as the cap space situation gets better. Can you say Arch Manning? (Or not.)

Jan 31, 20251h 47m

Mike McCarthy tells Saints no ... So the team's coaching search is down to Kellen Moore on Ep. 338

Well, the Saints are in quite the predicament … or are they? Mike McCarthy became the latest candidate to pull out of the team’s search for a new coach. Now, the only one left on the list who has been actively pursued by Mickey Loomis and company is Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Host Jim Derry asks New Orleans radio / TV host Eric Asher what he thinks of the situation on Wednesday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 338) presented by Evangeline Securities. Is the job THAT bad, or can it all work out and the Saints be competitive very soon? Are we worried Moore also will lose interest? Can he handle the job, anyway? Jim dives into Moore’s past and how he has ended up as a potential head coach at 36 years old. Also Gabe Henderson is here to talk Super Bowl and to answer the question of the day: Is it too early to consider Patrick Mahomes as a candidate for the NFL’s GOAT?

Saints coaching update and conspiracy theorists upset about Chiefs vs. Eagles on Ep. 337

The search for the next coach of the New Orleans Saints has stepped up to the next level, and common sense says it is likely Mike McCarthy – or if reports of brass flying to Philly are true – Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. And we use nothing but common sense on this show. Host Jim Derry gets into it early and asks viewers and listeners their thoughts on the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 337) presented by Evangeline Securities on ‘Mano E Monday.’ Of course, we jump into the hubbub from Sunday’s AFC championship game and the conspiracy theorists are having a meltdown today. Jim says it’s not because they love Swifties or Mahomes or because they hate the Bills or anything else. Fact is: The Chiefs are just that damn good. He brings in Gabe Henderson to talk about the conference title games, and they take an early look at Super Bowl LIX, which will kick off in New Orleans on Feb. 9.

Jan 27, 20251h 34m

Is Kellen Moore a legit Saints HC candidate? Best bets for NFL conference title games? Ep. 336

We have spent a couple weeks pondering who could be the next head coach of the New Orleans Saints. Did we gloss over Kellen Moore a bit too quickly? Now that it looks like the Dallas Cowboys might be settling on Brian Schottenheimer, Moore suddenly has become one of the favorites to land the job with Mike McCarthy and Joe Brady. What do we think? Jim Derry brings in The Athletic's Larry Holder to see where his head is, and to get his picks for Sunday's NFL conference championship games on Friday's Dattitude (Ep. 336) presented by Evangeline Securities. Also, Jim, Gabe Henderson and Uncle Big Nick keep on keeping on with their pick' em contest, as they have game picks and prop bets for both NFL conference championship games this weekend.

Jan 24, 20252h 2m

Mike McCarthy or Joe Brady? Saints can't go wrong with either. Eric Asher on Ep. 335

Now that Aaron Glenn is heading to the Big Apple to become coach of the New York Jets, that seems to make for a much easier decision for New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis: It has to be either Mike McCarthy or Joe Brady, right? Host Jim Derry asks this of New Orleans radio / TV host Eric Asher on Wednesday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 335) presented by Evangeline Securities. What happens going forward, and have the Saints hit rock bottom? Can they be competitive again as soon as next year? (NOTE: We learned about Glenn during the show and discussed it.) Jim also brings in Gabe Henderson to go back through the NFL divisional round results and Patrick Mahomes controversy, as well as a quick look ahead to the conference championship games Sunday. Also, Jim shares some of the “snow moments” he had with his family at home Tuesday.

Jan 22, 20252h 7m

Mike McCarthy new favorite to become Saints coach; NFL, CFP pick em on Ep. 334

For the majority of the past couple weeks, Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn has been the favorite to land the Saints head coaching vacancy. However, as of late Thursday, former Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy has taken that spot. What do we think of this move, and who do we think will end up with the gig? Jim Derry asks WWL-TV sports director Doug Mouton what he thinks on Friday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 334) presented by Evangeline Securities. What about Joe Brady and Kellen Moore – do either one of those young candidates stand a chance, and would that change how much Mickey Loomis is involved in personnel decisions going forward? Jim also brings in the pick ’em crew as Gabe Henderson and Uncle Big Nick share their best bets of the weekend for the NFL’s divisional round and the CFP championship game on Monday.

Jeff Duncan shares thoughts on Mickey Loomis staying and the Saints coaching search on Ep. 333

When you want answers to questions about the New Orleans Saints, there’s one guy we turn to at The Times-Picayune, and that’s columnist Jeff Duncan. And man, do we have some questions. Host Jim Derry asks Jeff on Wednesday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 333) presented by Evangeline Securities about the big season-ending press conference by Mickey Loomis, and whether he has confidence better decisions will be made going forward. That includes the biggest decision of them all: Aaron Glenn or Mike McCarthy as head coach, and do either even want the job? What about Joe Brady or Kellen Moore? Also, we hear some of the highlights from Loomis’ presser and get Jeff’s reaction and ask him for his predictions on the immediate future of the franchise. Lastly, Jim and Gabe Henderson disagree on whether New Orleans should be a prime landing spot for prospective coaches.

Jan 15, 20251h 48m

Aaron Glenn, Joe Brady top candidates for Saints job, but Mike McCarthy has entered room on Ep. 332

We are more than a week past the end of a dreadful 2024 Saints season, and all the focus now has shifted to whom will lead the team next season and beyond. Coming into Monday morning, there were two clear favorites in Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Bills OC Joe Brady, but that was before it was announced Mike McCarthy and the Cowboys were parting ways. Does that change the thought process? Would McCarthy even want to work for his former employer? Host Jim Derry shares his thoughts and asks viewers and listeners what they think on the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 332) presented by Evangeline Securities on ‘Mano E Monday.’ He also talks about other potential options and why i’'s almost certainly one of these three men if they want it. Also, Jim brings on Gabe Henderson to talk about the NFL wild-card round results, preview the Vikings-Rams game and look ahead to the divisional round just a few weeks before Super Bowl LIX kicks off in New Orleans.

Jan 13, 20251h 56m

Odds update on who will be next Saints coach, in-depth talk on NFL wild-card games on Ep. 331

With six wild-card playoff games on tap, the NFL is set to begin the playoffs with its three MVP candidates taking center stage in Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and Saquon Barkley. Who will advance to the Divisional Round, and where will the upsets come from? Jim Derry asks The Athletic's Larry Holder on Friday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 331) presented by Evangeline Securities, as they also will talk about the Saints coaching search. They will dive into the latest odds on who it might be, as a new name has entered the top 3 along with favorites Aaron Glenn and Joe Brady. Jim also will have a few words about Thursday's CFP semifinals game and give his pick for Friday's Ohio State-Texas game. And Gabe Henderson has a gripe to get off his chest about comparisons of Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman to LSU coach Brian Kelly.

Playoff picks for CFP playoff semifinals and NFL wild-card games on Ep. 330

For many football fans, Thursday through Monday is the best time of year with eight playoff games college and pro, including the CFP semifinals and NFL wild-card games. But who is going to win them, and will there be any upsets? Host Jim Derry is here with his Betting Crew – Uncle Big Nick and Gabe Henderson – to make all their best bets on Thursday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 330) presented by Evangeline Securities. Can MVP candidates Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and Saquon Barkley keep their seasons going? Will the injured Jordan Love play for Packers? Notre Dame or Penn State? Texas or Ohio State? Also, Jim spends the first part of the show going through the Saints’ coaching search and goes through an interesting schedule with great guests we’ll have here on the podcast the next week-plus.

How do the Saints get out of 'Football Purgatory?' Mike Detillier answers on Ep. 329

Ten months ago, WWL Radio analyst Mike Detillier came on our show and saind the New Orleans Saints are in “football purgatory,” and that major changes needed to be made before they could get out. Nothing’s changed, and things are even worse today than they were in March 2024. So host Jim Derry asks Mike on Wednesday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 329) presented by Evangeline Securities how to get out of this hell it seems they are stuck in. Can it be fixed by hiring a new coach? Will Mickey Loomis be the one making that decision? Who are the leading candidates, and does Aaron Glenn or Joe Brady have an advantage because they already have coached here? What about Kellen Moore or even Matt Nagy? (Hey, we didn’t make up these names.) And will the next coach want to keep Derek Carr? Is there any other possibility at QB?

Jan 8, 20251h 52m

Where is the Saints coaching search heading, and can Rattler even be a backup QB? Ep. 328

The disaster of a 2024 football season is finally over for the New Orleans Saints, and now the real work begins. Who will take over for Dennis Allen / Darren Rizzi? Who will want the job? Who are the names we’re going to hear mentioned? Host Jim Derry has his thoughts on the State of the Saints in his final postgame “Derry’s Dime” of the season, and he asks viewers and listeners what they think on the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 328) presented by Evangeline Securities on ‘Mano E Monday.’ Jim presents his case why Spencer Rattler can’t even serve as a backup quarterback, and anything other than offensive line early in the 2025 NFL Draft would be a big mistake. We also take a look at the 2025 opponents and why the Saints could have an “easy schedule” for a third consecutive season. (What does that even mean?) And there is at least a little optimism as Jim gives fans at least one reason an incoming coach be successful right away. (There is a precedent.)

Jan 6, 20251h 24m

When does Saints future begin? Also, preview of Bucs game and CFP semifinals talk on Ep. 327

We are now T-minus 2 days until the future of the New Orleans Saints can begin to be shaped which will be almost immediately after the 2024 season finale against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Who will the new coach be? Who will be making that decision? Which players will be sent packing? So many questions, and it’s time to start trying to figure out answers. Host Jim Derry does that with NFL beat writer for The Athletic, Larry Holder, on Friday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 327) presented by Evangeline Securities. Oh, and does the game at the Bucs mean anything at all this Sunday? Gabe Henderson also joins the show for final thoughts on this past week of college football quarterfinals, and a look ahead to the semifinals next week, as Texas will face Ohio State and Penn State plays Notre Dame. Lastly, Jim looks back on the tragedy in his hometown and how it affected the Sugar Bowl.

Saints, Spencer Rattler lay egg vs. Raiders ... so what now? And CFB picks on Ep. 326

We’re not breaking news when we tell you the New Orleans Saints are a shell of what they were – even just from the beginning of the season. Spencer Rattler is never going to be the answer at quarterback, and this coaching staff should begin the process of packing their bags. But what next? One thing for sure is the 25-10 loss to the lowly Las Vegas Raiders in the home finale should stand as a symbol for where this team is right now. How do you fix it? Can this current administration do it, or do we need new blood there, too? Host Jim Derry tries to answer as best he can, and – (deep breath) – he asks viewers and listeners what they think on the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 326) presented by Evangeline Securities on ‘Mano E Monday.’ He also shares his thoughts in ‘Derry’s Dime’ and gets picks for the CFB playoffs and LSU vs. Baylor in the Texas Bowl from Gabe Henderson and Uncle Big Nick.

Saints at Packers preview, Saints future and CFB quarterfinals playoff talk on Ep. 325

If the Who Dats were looking for a Christmas present from their favorite professional sports team, they should enter Monday Night Football with a realistic attitude. As in, “Can Spencer Rattler play with something to prove 2 weeks in a row?” “Can the reserves getting a chance to shine punch their ticket for the future?” And then the most important one at least in the near term: “Can the Saints keep it close on the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field?” We’ll find out – at least somewhat – at Green Bay, and we’ll preview the game, as host Jim Derry asks viewers and listeners what they think on the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 325) presented by Evangeline Securities on a holiday edition of ‘Mano E Monday.’ Also, we are joined by The Athletic’s Larry Holder for Saints / NFL talk and predictions for Monday’s game. Gabe Henderson joins the show for a look at this past weekend of college football playoffs and the upcoming Elite Eight in the bowl games.

Dec 23, 20241h 44m

Can Spencer Rattler do it again at Lambeau? LSU, Tulane, CFB Playoff talk on Ep. 324

There’s no question Spencer Rattler grabbed his opportunity this past Sunday vs. the Commanders and ran with it. However, repeating that performance at Lambeau Field in Green Bay this coming Monday night would be something very different. Can he pull it off? That is the lead topic on Wednesday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 324) presented by Evangeline Securities, as host Jim Derry also talks about the Black and Gold being the biggest underdog they have been in 30 years. Can they shock the NFL world? Lastly, Gabe Henderson is here to talk about LSU in the Texas Bowl, Tulane in the Gasparilla Bowl and the transfer portal. He, Jim and Uncle Big Nick make their top picks for the first weekend of College Football Playoffs, and Jim shares his thoughts on quarterback TJ Finley heading to Tulane to play for his fifth college.

Dec 18, 20241h 28m

Reading through Darren Rizzi's 2-pt gamble and Spencer Rattler's rise in loss to Commanders: Ep. 323

There’s no question that New Orleans Saints football is more fun than it was 6 weeks ago or so. But does that mean Darren Rizzi should be considered when the team begins the process next month of figuring out who will lead them on a permanent basis? For examples on why or why not, we point to one big decision he made in Sunday’s loss to the Washington Commanders – and not simply going for two, but WHEN he made the decision. Also, no matter what one thinks of RIzzi, there’s no denying Spencer Rattler shined when given a chance to resurrect the Saints in the second half. Host Jim Derry shares his thoughts in his weekly ‘Derry’s Dime’, and he asks viewers and listeners, as well, what they think on the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 323) presented by Evangeline Securities in another spirited ‘Mano E Monday’ episode. We also talk about what we might expect in next Monday’s game at potentially frozen Lambeau Field in Green Bay.

Dec 16, 20241h 42m

Saints-Commanders preview, Heisman talk and our Best Bets for Week 15 on Ep. 322

Most pundits aren’t giving the Saints much of a chance to upset the Washington Commanders on Sunday as they sit more than a touchdown underdog at home. Most of that is because quarterback Derek Carr is out. Here we are on Friday, and we still don’t know whether it will be Jake Haener or Spencer Rattler who will be the replacement. But does it matter? That’s just one topic for you on Thursday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 322) presented by Evangeline Securities, as Jim Derry has a plethora of things to talk about. Gabe Henderson is here as always, and he’ll weigh in on not who will win the Heisman Trophy, but whether it SHOULD be Colorado’s Travis Hunter or Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty. Uncle Big Nick rubs it in a bit that he was better than Jim last week, and each will have their best bets for Week 15 in the NFL (and one college pick to go with it).

Dec 12, 20241h 34m

Roman Harper on Saints future; LHSAA state football; Darian Mensah to Duke on Ep. 321

In August, a game in December at home against the Washington Commanders and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels was marked as a sure victory for the New Orleans Saints. My, how 4 months can change things, as the home team currently stands as a 7½-point underdog. That is the lead topic on Wednesday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 321) presented by Evangeline Securities, as host Jim Derry asks if the Commanders are a model franchise to look to when thinking about the future – or maybe just take pieces from multiple teams. Also, Jim talks to former Saints safety Roman Harper and asks how the team can back to respectability. Lastly, Franklinton football coach Nick Saltaformaggio again joins the show to discuss his team playing in an LHSAA state title game on Friday, and Gabe Henderson talks about the potential of legendary coach Bill Belichick going to the college ranks at North Carolina.

Costly victory for Saints as Derek Carr injured; CFP brackets; LSU and Tulane on Ep. 320

The good news for the New Orleans Saints from Sunday’s game in the Meadowlands is they won. Yay. The bad news is in one of the NFL’s worst football games of the season, quarterback Derek Carr suffered a likely season-ending injury one week after Taysom Hill did the same. Who will it be going forward: Jake Haener or Spencer Rattler? Does it even matter? What about interim coach Darren Rizzi? Does his less than awe-inspiring performance eliminate him from contention? If not, will the next 4 weeks do that? Host Jim Derry shares his thoughts in his weekly ‘Derry’s Dime’, and he asks viewers and listeners, as well, what they think on the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 320) presented by Evangeline Securities in another spirited ‘Mano E Monday’ episode. Also, we talk about Tulane coach Jon Sumrall announcing he’s staying in New Orleans, although his quarterback Darian Mensah says he’s entering the transfer portal. The Wave will play Florida in the Gasparilla Bowl, while LSU will face off against Baylor in the Texas Bowl on New Year’s Eve. Lastly, Jim and Gabe Henderson offer thoughts on the CFP brackets and whether the committee got it right.

Who will fill Taysom's role for Saints, and is Dan Campbell a psycho? Ep. 319

Of course, the 4-8 New Orleans Saints will face the 2-10 New York Giants this Sunday, but we have more important questions than how these teams matchup against one another. The first one is, while we are pretty sure there will be big changes for the Saints in the offseason, do we really know who will be making them? Will it be Mickey Loomis? Does Gayle Benson have other ideas? Jim Derry asks The Athletic’s Larry Holder for his thoughts, as they get into a deep discussion about what could happen when the middle of January rolls around and the season is over, and they do it on Friday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 319) presented by Evangeline Securities. Jim also has plenty to say on how Lions coach Dan Campbell could have turned a sure victory into a loss Thursday night at Ford Field against NFC North-rival Green Bay. Also, that style of football might be fun for the casual fan because it’s different and it reminds them of playing Madden Football, but it’s just plain stupid (and psycho).

It's conference championship weekend in college football, so which ones will be the most interesting? Where do Saints rank in 'lowerarchy' of NFL; LHSAA FB semifinals preview on Ep. 317

We made up a new word on Wednesday, and it seems pretty simple. So we ask our viewers and listeners where the New Orleans Saints rank in the NFL’s “lowerarchy?” There are plenty of teams in worse shape than us, right? That is the lead topic on Wednesday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 317) presented by Evangeline Securities, as host Jim Derry begins to look ahead to the Saints facing one of those “lower” teams in the New York Giants. Derek Carr or Drew Lock? Alvin Kamara or Tyrone Tracy? Brian Daboll or whoever the next coach of the Saints will be? You get the picture. Also, Jim is talking about Friday’s LHSAA football semifinals, as this weekend’s winners are headed to the Caesars Superdome for the state championship games next week. One of the 16 coaches joins us, as Franklinton’s Nick Saltaformaggio is here to discuss his Demons, as well as what it’s like to be in the semis with a third different school in 11 years. Jim and Salt also look at the other games in the semis that involve local schools.

Saints lose what little shot they had left for playoffs AND Taysom Hill. Mano E Monday on Ep. 316

It was pretty clear that ‘Rizzmas’ ended Sunday in the Caesars Superdome. It wasn’t just because the New Orleans Saints lost to the Los Angeles Rams, 21-14, but the fact that Mr. Everything, AKA Taysom Hill, was lost for the season (and potentially beyond) with a gruesome knee injury that involved him being removed from the field on a cart. Indeed, there were plenty of missteps for interim coach Darren Rizzi and the Saints, as they could not take advantage of holding the ball for 13:58 of the first 15 minutes and forcing a shutout of the Rams in the first half for the first time in the Sean McVay era. Instead, it was the visitors who were nearly unstoppable in the second half, and whatever dream of a miracle finish to the season was over. Host Jim Derry shares his thoughts in his weekly ‘Derry’s Dime’, and he asks viewers and listeners, as well, what they think on the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 316) presented by Evangeline Securities in another ‘Mano E Monday’ episode. We also talk a bit about LSU’s romp of Oklahoma and the grittiness of quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.

Saints vs. Rams preview with Larry Holder; Tulane's loss to Memphis deals Wave a blow on Ep. 315

As bad as this season has been, it might be hard for some to believe the New Orleans Saints haven’t lost a football game since Nov. 3. And they can finish off a month-long homestand in style Sunday against Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams. Will Who Dats still have visions of a Merry Rizzmas in their heads after this one is over? Can the Alvin Kamara, Taysom Hill and the Saints running game blow past a porous Rams run defense? What about Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua against the Black and Gold’s 30th-ranked pass defense? Jim Derry has asks The Athletic’s Larry Holder what he thinks, as the duo previews Sunday’s game on Friday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 315) presented by Evangeline Securities. Jim also reviews Tulane’s loss to Memphis and what that might mean in regards to the Wave’s American Athletic Conference championship game meeting with Army, and we also preview Week 13 in the NFL.

Are Saints fans most thankful for Darren Rizzi? How hot is Brian Kelly's seat at LSU? Ep. 314

The New Orleans Saints are about to wrap up nearly one full month at home when they host the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. With a win, it would be the first winning streak of the season, and it would make interim coach Darren Rizzi 3-0. What would that do for the fans’ confidence? Would there be realistic hopes for the remainder of this season? And what about LSU? Has the hate on Coach Brian Kelly been justified or overt the top? Is a potential nine-win season good enough? Host Jim Derry asks the fans themselves on Wednesday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 314) presented by Evangeline Securities, as he also has a weekly chat with producer Gabe Henderson. Also, Jim talks about Tulane’s success and wonders aloud how long they can hold on to Coach Jon Sumrall, and he looks ahead to the Thursday slate of action in NFL Week 13.

Can Saints continue their magic after the bye week? And NFL and CFB Best Bets on Ep. 313

There’s no question the Saints have played like a different team the past couple weeks under interim coach Darren Rizzi. The big question is can they continue the magic after the bye week with games against stiffer competition such as the Los Angeles Rams, Washington Commanders and Green Bay Packers? Is Jim Derry lightening up on his “0.0 percent chance of making the playoffs?” We’ll find out on Thursday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 313) presented by Evangeline Securities, as he asks the viewers and listeners what they think, as well. Also, Jim talks about LSU and where they stand with Coach Brian Kelly before coming home to play Vanderbilt on Saturday. We also welcome in Gabe Henderson to hear his top play, as well as Uncle Big Nick and his weekly five best bets. The team also previews Indiana at Ohio State and a few other top games, including Ole Miss vs. Florida in college football and Lions vs. Colts, Ravens vs. Chargers and Packers vs. 49ers in the NFL.

A Happy Tay! Hill goes for 200+ and Saints crush Jameis and the Browns on Ep. 312

There’s no question that interim coach Darren Rizzi has lit a spark under these current New Orleans Saints. We politely wonder what he lit underneath Taysom Hill, who had well over 200 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in a 35-14 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday in the Superdome. Also, Derek Carr and Alvin Kamara were fantastic, and we wonder if this can continue for the remainder of the season. That being said, the defense did give up nearly 400 passing yards to Jameis Winston in his return to New Orleans. Host Jim Derry shares his thoughts in his weekly ‘Derry’s Dime’, and he asks viewers and listeners, as well, what they think on the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 312) presented by Evangeline Securities in another ‘Mano E Monday’ episode. Gabe Henderson joins the show to discuss LSU’s problems, and we ask if Coach Brian Kelly is in trouble, and whether we think Tulane could beat the Tigers.

Saints vs. Browns preview ... Will Jameis Winston get revenge or Rizzi stay hot? Ep. 311

For the first time in nearly 2 months, it has been a fun week for the New Orleans Saints and their fans after beating up on the Atlanta Falcons with interim coach Darren Rizzi. What does the team do for an encore this week, as former Saint Jameis Winston comes to town? Jim Derry has plenty of questions, and he looks for answers from The Athletic’s Larry Holder as the duo previews Sunday’s game on Friday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 311) presented by Evangeline Securities. We also answered questions from the live audience throughout the show. And what about LSU vs. Florida and Tulane heading to play Navy for their toughest game since losing to Oklahoma. We touch on the Pelicans back at home against the Nikola Jokic-less Denver Nuggets, and we make picks for the top games in the NFL for Week 11.

Can no-name WRs continue to propel Saints vs. Browns? Also, Week 11 Best Bets on Ep. 310

Quick trivia question: How many Saints have caught passes this season? Ten? Twelve? How about 15? Yep, it has been a revolving door for Derek Carr and the backup quarterbacks, and other than Alvin Kamara, it seems as if it’s someone different every week. Host Jim Derry has his thoughts on Thursday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 310) presented by Evangeline Securities, as he asks the audience what they think … and – as usual – they have plenty of answers. We also continue our talk on interim coach Darren Rizzi and the potential he is more than a rental and whether the top brass thinks it needs a complete overhaul or minor changes. Jim also welcomes in Bet.NOLA.com’s Gabe Henderson to hear his top play and go through the week’s top games both in the NFL and in college football. Lastly, while Uncle Big Nick couldn’t be here with a family situation, he sent in his weekly five best bets. Jim looks to build on his 4-1 week with his top two picks coming from the same game.

Gee Rizz! Can Saints continue their inspired play under interim coach Darren Rizzi? Ep. 309

There’s no question the New Orleans Saints played like a different team under interim coach Darren Rizzi this past Sunday. But it’s much tougher to continue that momentum – especially this week against a team in the Cleveland Browns with a good defense and a quarterback in Jameis Winston who might be looking to exact some revenge. How will the Saints handle it, and what does the success – or lack there of – with interim coaches have to do with the current situation? Is Rizzi the favorite to land the permanent job? Will the likelihood of center Erik McCoy coming back help the team’s chances of winning? We’ll talk about that, as well as LSU at Florida, Tulane at Navy and the woeful Pelicans with WWL-TV sports director Doug Mouton on Wednesday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 309) presented by Evangeline Securities. Host Jim Derry is also joined by producer Gabe Henderson. And Jim asks listeners what they think of Rizzi and why they think more highly of him than LSU coach Brian Kelly.

For at least a day, Saints fans had fun ... What does this mean for Darren Rizzi? Ep. 308

One week ago, we were talking about the Saints finally making the big move that needed to be done many months ago with the firing of Coach Dennis Allen. On Sunday, that move paid dividends, as the team played inspired football for the first time in more than a month under interim coach Darren Rizzi. So after the team’s 20-17 victory against the hated Atlanta Falcons, are fans already thinking Rizzi should be considered for the long-term gig? Jim Derry shares his thoughts in his weekly ‘Derry’s Dime’, and he asks viewers and listeners, as well, on the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 305) presented by Evangeline Securities in another ‘Mano E Monday’ episode. Also, Gabe Henderson joins the show, and things get spicy when Jim and Gabe disagree on why LSU lost to Alabama. Lastly, Jim plays clips from quarterback Derek Carr and running back Alvin Kamara for proof the team is happy Allen is gone, and he also gives a prediction for Monday Night Football as the Rams host the Dolphins.

Saints vs. Falcons preview for Week 10 ... Can football be fun again? Larry Holder on Ep. 307

For the first time in 28 years, the New Orleans Saints have an in-season coaching change, as Darren Rizzi will go into his first game against the (of all teams) Atlanta Falcons? What is the history of interim coaches and their debuts? Jim Derry answers that question, and he brings in The Athletic’s Larry Holder to ponder whether Rizzi could make a run at the fulltime gig on a permanent basis. We also preview Sunday’s game on Friday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 307) presented by Evangeline Securities, and we answer questions from the live audience throughout the show. It's also a day to take a look at LSU’s chance against Alabama on Saturday, as some ask whether the Tigers now have a coaching advantage with Brian Kelly over Kalen DeBoer. Lastly, what are the top games in the NFL for Week 10, and do we see any upsets coming?

Does firing of Dennis Allen fire up Saints vs. Falcons? Best Bets for Week 10 on Ep. 306

It has been 3 days since the New Orleans Saints fired Coach Dennis Allen and replaced him with interim coach Darren Rizzi. Will this be enough to inspire the players – especially at home this week against the rival Atlanta Falcons? Host Jim Derry has his thoughts on Thursday’s Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 306) presented by Evangeline Securities, as he dives into all sorts of questions related to the Saints, including how past teams have done following in-season coaching changes. He also questions whether wide receiver Chris Olave should take a risk and play any time soon following a fourth concussion. Jim also welcomes in Bet.NOLA.com’s Gabe Henderson to hear his top play, as well as Uncle Big Nick and his weekly five best bets. The team also previews LSU vs. Alabama and a few other top games, including Ole Miss vs. Georgia and Florida vs. Texas in college football and Texans vs. Lions and Cowboys vs. Eagles in the NFL.

Dennis Allen fired ... Is this the start of a purge for Saints or band-aid for gaping wound? Ep. 305

Who Dats got their wish Monday morning: The New Orleans Saints fired Coach Dennis Allen following a seven-game losing streak that ended in embarrassment in Carolina on Sunday. But is this going to be followed by many more (just as key) moves? Jim Derry wastes no time with his ‘Derry’s Dime’ and thoughts of the firing, as well as our weekly ‘Mano E Monday’ asking viewers and listeners their thoughts on the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 305) presented by Evangeline Securities. Does it matter Darren Rizzi is taking over? Does Klint Kubiak get a pass through all this? Why are fans still hating on Derek Carr? Oh, and what’s in store for General Manager Mickey Loomis? Plenty of questions to answer and so little time. Also, Gabe Henderson also joins the show as he does each week to share his thoughts on the move and to give an early prediction on LSU-Alabama.
