Der Schotte James Clerk Maxwell präsentierte das erste Farbfoto und bewies damit zugleich die Theorie der additiven Farbmischung. Sein erstes Fotomotiv in Farbe: schottischer Tartan-Stoff. Fortan musste man also achtgeben darauf, wer wie bunt gemustert aufs Familienfoto sollte.
