Ep 11Lewis Howes
I had an amazing conversation with Lewis Howes. I met Lewis back when I was promoting my book called "Pretty Intense". I did his show called "School of Greatness". And it honestly was part of what helped push me or encourage me and feel excited about this idea of doing a podcast because I had done a few of them that week. And I was like, "man Podcasts are really fun." And it's really fun to just dive into things in a way that you don't get to do in a five to seven minute interview, which is what I was so used to. So we got to dive even further. We talked for a really long time and we touched on all kinds of things and a lot of it for him had to do with transitions and how he became this very confident, goal oriented, driven human being. But as a kid he was super insecure and even said, “I don't even know why I was born!” Which is just so much distance between those two things. So we talked about bridging that gap and how he got to this position of being really confident and working for the success in service as opposed to wanting success and validation as a young man. So please enjoy this fantastic show. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Ep 10Gloria Steinem
Wow… Gloria Steinem. An 85 year-old Icon. She's a writer. But she says she has a hard time pinning down exactly what her job is. She’s a writer. She's a feminist. She is a part of movements. And my goodness, she has some interesting and sometimes very simple perspectives on life. I think we all want an answer, and the simple answer is not the one we want. But Gloria says that sometimes simple is what the truth is. And I'm not going to argue with someone who's 85 years-old! She has a hell of a lot more experience than I do. So, look, we talked about life. We talked about what's important. And we talked about what the point of it all is. And I hope that you find this just as refreshing as I did. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Ep 9Melissa Hartwig Urban
Today's show is with the very strong, very confident, and very determined and wonderful Melissa Hartwig Urban. I found out about Melissa way back when I started CrossFit. Paleo is a diet who very oriented to the CrossFit world. And then there's a little subset within paleo called Whole30. And I don't think that Melissa meant to do it like that. But it's got a lot of foundational similarities to paleo with certain foods that you are encouraged to eat more and ones that you aren't Melissa talked about the birth of Whole30 and what that looked like and the struggles that she's had as a person and the places that she's grown. And we talked about her love for hiking. She calls it her church. I also learned a lot about food and why we eat the way we do. The Whole 30 program is something I'm passionate about. I really believe that we need to develop a a positive relationship with food and stop looking at healthy food as a punishment and cake as a reward. There’s something fundamentally wrong with that.. Melissa also has a new book coming out, “Whole30 Friends and Family”. So please pick that up as I'm sure it has plenty of amazing recipes for, of course, your friends and family. Enjoy Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Ep 8Trevor Hall
Today on the show we have my absolute favorite artist, Trevor Hall. My friend Stacey turned me on to his music years ago, and I remember when she asked for it to be put on and I was listening to country or something like that. And she was like, “Do you mind if I put some of my music on?” I was like, “OK….” But I'm a little protective of the music. And she put it on, and I never turned it off. Trevor is a fantastic artist. He has a lot of heart, a lot of soul. He writes it all himself. He just has a really cool story. His dad is a tennis pro that sells real estate. And the first time I met his dad, he had a polo on tucked into his jeans with a belt. He is the classic all-American looking guy. And then there's Trevor, who's, tattoos and, definitely much more laid-back kind of hippie vibe. And he's an artist and he's singing about spirituality. Look, I want to know how the hell that guy turns into that guy? Like, how did that happen in his family? So, we talked about that. We talked about travel. We talked about how music impacts him. And we talked about personal growth and how we can expand as human beings into a space that's not only better for others, but ultimately better for ourselves. So please enjoy. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Ep 7Tony Kanaan
Today we're talking to Tony Kanaan, who is an Indy car driver and was a team-mate of mine. So for me, I was really interested in hearing about him as a person in his life. That's just stuff you don't get into when you're friends. You just kind of going about your life and your work. But I really wanted to dive into that. And so we did. And he had a lot of really great perspective on the challenges of not just the job itself, because it's hard. But really what I wanted to know about his life. So we talked about the balance of that and how to grow as a human being to being a happier person. Please enjoy. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Ep 6Bobby Flay
Today on the show is Bobby Flay. Fantastic chef. New York City boy that made it big. I went on his show. He's a great guy. He's funny. We have a lot of similar interests. And one of them that came up was his love for horses and horse racing. And oh, my gosh: Horseracing and race cars are very similar. I knew that horsepower and horses were both very expensive. But it turns out they actually have a lot of really common themes too. So we talked about that. We talked about things that he's done in his life that have really been meaningful to him. He took a trip to Rome and spent five weeks by himself. So I thought that was really inspiring. And we talked about why. We talked about how he felt about it and how that maybe changed his life forever. That trip, with just him and his cat, Nacho!! Please enjoy. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
Ep 5Howie Mandel
Let me just set the scene up for you: I arrive 45 minutes early for Howie’s interview. I'm sitting on the couch. And I'm thinking, “I'm going to take the notes that I've done while researching Howie and put them onto my blue note cards that I always have in front of me”. It helps me remember. But also it's a reference if I want to make sure that there's a topic I want to dive into. Because sometimes you get into a conversation and you forget to ask things. Like, how many times have you been in an argument or in a good conversation and you’re like, “Oh, man, I should have asked that!!!” And I don't want to do that with these wonderful people that are giving me this hour, hour and a half of their time. I want to get it all in. So I make notes. And I'm over on the couch and here Howie comes walking in. And he's like, “Are we ready?” And I'm like, “Oh, God, I haven't written my notes on the card yet!!” And I want to make sure I'm prepared. He's like, “You don't need those. Let's just get going.” And he keeps talking and I'm like, “Oh, my gosh…” So I just jot down like, literally almost bullet points, much, much, much thinner amount of information than I normally do. And we sit down. And we just go on and on! And really, when I mean “we”, I mean “he”. Howie is so full of energy. A very positive, “live in the now” kind of guy. And on the show today, you're going to hear how powerful it can be to be more present, and how detrimental it can be to try and plan your life. And I'm going to say it hit home because that's something I try and do all the time as plan my life. And I'm not so much of a “go with the flow” person. So I found it extremely beneficial. And then, of course, you're gonna hear all the stories of how he's been wildly successful just going with the flow. So please enjoy. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 4Neil deGrasse Tyson
Today's guest is someone that is about a million times more intelligent than me and, I'm not going to lie; it was a little intimidating. Neil deGrasse Tyson: Astrophysicist. Not even sure what that means. But look, he is amazing and his depth of knowledge is about stars and space and where did we come from and atoms and nuclear forces and subatomic particles and a whole bunch of other words I can't think of because they're too big for me. But we talked about religion. And that was something that surprised me because look, he's a scientist and science and religion don't really go together. But he knows a lot about it. And we talked about that. We talked about why he knows a lot about religion. We talked about another interesting and fascinating topic, and that's just the trajectory of being “1 percent more intelligent”. So chimpanzees are 1 percent less intelligent than humans. So what's 1 percent more and what's 1 percent more of that? And then, of course, I ask the ultimate question, do you believe in aliens? So I hope you have an amazing time listening to this and learn because I sure did. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 3T.J. Patrick
Today we're talking to my dad, T.J. Patrick. I just thought it'd be fascinating to sit down and kind of “grill” my dad. Does anyone really sit down and grill their dad about deep subjects and really dive into their psyche and ask questions? Think about the questions that you've never asked before because you just take them for granted because it's your dad? Well, I did. So we talked about all kinds of things and talked about childhood. He told me the true story of how we started racing, which is different than mine. I'm super bummed about it. But hey, truth is truth. We had fun and it was nice to hear stories that even I've never heard before. So please enjoy. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 2Marcus Samuelsson
Marcus Samuelsson is a fantastic chef based in New York City. Marcus was born in Ethiopia and grew-up in Sweden. So he is so inspiring from a cultural perspective. He can speak many languages, and he can understand many more. He is a very diverse guy. And we talked a lot about the challenges of that. We talked about how it also helps you grow. We talked about traveling and getting to different parts of the world and how we're more alike than we are different. And then we talked about giving back to the community. And he's doing some really cool things around getting back to the community and local neighborhood and supporting each other. And I hope you find it inspiring because I did. Ep 1Alex Rodriguez
The guest today is Alex Rodriguez or A-Rod, if you'd like to call him that. He is quite the businessman now. And, of course, still the baseball legend. But something tells me people are going to remember him for his business sense and his successes off the field. And so we talked a lot about business. We talked about how A-Rod Corp started in 2003, and we talked about the trajectory of that and what he's done and where it's going. And we also talked about some of the transitional times in his life that weren't so easy. I hope you like it Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
