Texas Education Freedom Accounts: A Billion-Dollar Opportunity for Families
Families in Texas have until Tuesday to apply for the Texas Education Freedom Accounts, a $1 billion program offering vouchers for private school tuition and related expenses. Despite confusion around pre-kindergarten applications, over 184,000 families have applied. Pre-K rules mirror free public pre-K, with only 12,000 of 24,000 applicants meeting the criteria. Most other applicants are eligible for kindergarten through twelfth grade. A lottery will prioritize students with disabilities and low to middle-income families, with eligible families expected to hear back in early April.
