Show Notes
The University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worths Rural Primary Care Pathway program, launched in 2015, guides rural students into medical school by partnering with community colleges. The program, which includes mentoring and shadowing, aims to address the severe doctor shortage in rural Texas, with nearly 90% of counties lacking enough primary care providers. The program is expanding this fall with Weatherford College and plans to train more rural doctors who will return home to fill those vital roles long-term.
