In 2013, TCU student Ty Boone Pickens, grandson of the late oil billionaire T. Boone Pickens, died after his friend Brennan Rodriguez injected him with heroin. Rodriguez initially faced felony murder charges but struck a plea deal, pleading guilty to delivery of a controlled substance causing death. He served four months in jail and was released in early 2015. Rodriguez later got entangled in a stalking case, leading to the revocation of his probation and a ten-year prison sentence.
