Psalm 23:4 — Christ With the Persecuted: Courage in the Dark Valley
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” — Psalm 23:4 Recorded live here in London, England with Reverend Ben Cooper. The persecuted church walks through valleys the world rarely sees — yet Christ walks with them. Psalm 23:4 is one of the most searched verses globally for those seeking courage under pressure, light in darkness and strength when faith is tested. Across China, North Korea, Eritrea, Iran and Afghanistan, believers cling to this promise with unshakeable hope. prayer anchors Day 2 in PERSEVERANCE, standing with our brothers and sisters who refuse to let fear silence their faith. For many Christians, faith comes at a cost — secrecy, isolation, imprisonment and constant danger. Yet in every hidden room, prison cell, and whispered gathering, Jesus is present. The rod and staff of Christ protect, comfort and guide. No government, law or threat can remove His presence. The Holy Spirit fills underground believers with a courage that cannot be extinguished. Persecuted believers remind us what courage truly looks like — worship in silence, prayer behind closed doors, Scripture hidden in hearts, and faith held tightly when the world pushes back.
Their valley is dark, but Christ’s light is brighter. Their path is dangerous, but His presence is stronger. Today, as we pray for them, we also reflect on our own faith: Are we willing to stand? Are we willing to remain faithful? The Spirit strengthens both them and us. We lift China, North Korea, Eritrea, Iran and Afghanistan before You, Lord. Strengthen the secret church, protect prisoners of faith, empower underground leaders and comfort those who worship quietly in fear of persecution.
Bring revival in hidden places. Let courage spread, protection increase and Your presence be their constant companion. Pray for protection over secret gatherings. Ask God to strengthen believers facing imprisonment. Pray for Bibles and resources to reach underground churches.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to comfort families separated by persecution.
- Pray for courage for new believers under threat.
- Ask for supernatural protection over pastors and leaders.
- Pray for prisoners of faith to experience Christ’s presence.
- Ask God to soften the hearts of persecutors.
- Pray for revival to grow in hostile nations.
- Thank God that even in the darkest valley, Jesus is with them. Day 2 continues next with prayers for strength at midday.
