Canada made their much anticipated tournament debut, defeating Switzerland 4-0. Natalie Spooner was a potentially surprising pick to make the roster and started as the 13th forward, but her six shots and power-play goal helped Canada to the victory. Meanwhile, Hilary Knight scored her 14th career Olympic goal, drawing her into a tie with Kathryn King and Natalie Darwitz for the all-time American lead. The US handled Finland 5-0 to remain in 1st place in Group A with six points.
