AI: From Weather Forecasts to Robots
Artificial intelligence (AI) is making big changes in lots of areas, like predicting the weather and controlling robots! Scientists are creating special computer programs called AI models that can learn from lots of information. For example, a model called GenCast learned from 40 years of weather data and can now predict things like heat waves and hurricanes better than other systems. AI models are also being used to create virtual worlds, like a program called Genie 2 that can make a 3D video game world from just one picture.
However, there are some challenges with AI. Some people are worried about AI safety and how it can be tricked. For instance, researchers were able to use special commands to make robots powered by AI do dangerous things, like ignoring stop signs or entering restricted areas. This shows that even though AI is powerful, it's important to make sure it's used safely and responsibly. There are also questions about copyright because some AI programs, like ChatGPT, are trained using information from news articles and books. This is a complex issue that experts are still working on.
